I'm sure the show organizers must have planned this from the start. After all, if you have to start weeding out the contestants, this is as good a way as any. "George W. Bush" was supposed to be "Paris Hilton's" assistant for a magic act. (Since both characters don't sing or dance in real life, it kind of limits the options.) Anyway, "Paris", whose magic acts in the previous segments had been complete fiascos, manages to make "Bush" disappear ... and then freaks out, crying that she "doesn't want to go back to prison". The audience, who had booed both of them good-naturedly, applauded wildly -- who wouldn't, at the thought of getting rid of both of those characters.

Shame on me for watching, but it did turn out to be funnier than I'd expected. And to be fair, the performers really were trying to expand their roles into satire a bit, rather than just being lookalikes. So good for them, for the effort.

The constitution says that in order to be president, you must be at least 35 years of age. Neither Paris nor Lindsay meet that requirement (and I'm doubting either one of them will make it). But in this day and age when the president declares the constitution meaningless, anything goes I guess. At least it'll make for good television. :eyes:

5. Yeah, and it also stipulates both can't reside in the same state...
Didn't slow down the current crew in '00.

3. I think that's one of the better shows on right now.
The impersonators are talented, the judges are witty (though I think most of their remarks are written in advance) and the show moves along quickly so it never gets boring.

6. I liked the "Dubya" who was chosen from the LA auditions ...
He's the one who performed in prosthetic makeup (the one from Orlando who made it to the finals has more of a physical resemblance to Bush). I found out later that the LA guy's name is Jim Nieb -- and unlike some of the other professional Bush impersonators out there (like the one who appears regularly on Leno's show), he's firmly anti-Bush. Even appeared at an anti-war rally, in character. What really broke me up was the interview with him, out of character, where he was earnestly promising he'd do anything -- "is there money?" Anyway, both the "Bushes" who made it to the semifinals are more entertaining than the actual president, for sure.
