Help! - can't remember the name of this movie

Star: A heavy dude - somewhat Michael Moore-ish looking (character name "John"?)

Plot: Star was the shit in high school, never grew out of it, now in his 30s living in a rundown house with a couple of his pothead friends. He has a job teaching little kids part time. He always had a knack for getting chicks despite his looks because he could "get on their wavelength", basically talking girls outta their clothes.

One of his friends (?) gets engaged to The Beautiful Girl. Star's motorcycle breaks, and so Star and The Beautiful Girl end up carpooling into town for their repective jobs.

Star falls for The Beautiful Girl, and somehow they hook up after awhile. Predictably, his arrested development gets the best of him, pisses her off, and she actually takes off (to NY? For an acting role or something?). Forced to choose between his morning bong hit and The Beautiful Girl, he chooses the latter, instantaneously maturing, and going after The Love Of His Life.


What the hell movie is this???? It's been bugging me for days.

3. Hmm.... mebbe last 5 years? I *think* The Beautiful Girl is *somewhat* famous....

... But I don't recall any "A list-ers", if that's what you mean.

Sort of the same cut of actor level as Sideways, if that means anything.

It's set in southern Cali (out in desert-y area). Or mebbe it's NM or AZ. Definitely desert-y.
