How come nobody raves about Richard Brautigan any more? |
|
Is it because he was the Tom Robbins of poetry?

3. I think there are two reasons. |
|
1) He looked like an old hippie farmer.
2) Suicide victims don't interest anyone unless they're household-name famous like Hemingway or Cobain.
3) Nobody gives two fucks for poetry. OK, that's three, three reasons.

4. The Stunt Poets read his stuff |

These guys feature his poems before they do tunes. They read a different poet's work every gig. http://72.245.197.196/stunt/index.htm

6. Hey, how can you say that the lines below suck? |

I feel horrible. She doesn't love me and I wander around like a sewing machine that's just finished sewing a turd to a garbage can lid.
Oh, I guess I see your point.

7. How about that he's DEAD and been dead for for 23 years? |
|
I don't hear people bring up ee cumings, or Sylvia Plath, or even Jack Kerouac on a daily basis.
He might not have been Walt Whitman, but even Carl Sandburg and Maya Angelou occasionally wrote a klinker.

times change and not every artists stands the test of time. At best he was a niche author, cult figure. Kind of a literary one trick pony.
