Favorite Lines From A Movie
JESSEP
Absolutely. My answer is I don't have the
first damn clue. Maybe he was an early
morning riser and he liked to pack in the
nq. And maybe he didn't have any friends.
I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I
can't speak intelligently about the travel
habits of William Santiago. What I do
know is that he was set to leave the base
at 0600. Now are these really the
questions I was called here to answer?
Phone calls and footlockers? Please tell
me you've got something more, Lieutenant.
Please tell me there's an ace up your
sleeve. These two marines are on trial
for their lives. Please tell me their
lawyer hasn't pinned their hopes to a
phone bill.
JESSEP
(continuing)
What would you like to discuss now! My
favorite color? KAFFEE
I'll ask for the forth time. You ordered--

JESSEP
You want answers?

KAFFEE
I think I'm entitled to them.

JESSEP
You want answers?!

KAFFEE
I want the truth.

JESSEP
You can't handle the truth! You don't want the truth. Because deep
down, in places you don't talk about at
parties, you want me on that wall. You want
me there
(boasting)
We use words like honor, code,
loyalty...we use these words as the
backbone to a life spent defending
something. You use 'em as a punchline.
(beat)
I have neither the time nor the
inclination to explain myself to a man who
rises and sleeps under the blanket of the
very freedom I provide, then questions the
manner in which I provide it. I'd prefer
you just said thank you and went on your
way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a
weapon and stand a post. Either way, I
don't give a damn what you think you're
entitled to.

KAFFEE
(quietly)
Did you order the code red?

JESSEP
(beat)
I did the job you sent me to do.
KAFFEE
Did you order the code red?

JESSEP
(pause)
You're goddamn right I did.

1. From my new favorite movie
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 03:41 PM by MysticalChicken
Little Miss Sunshine, which I've seen three times since seeing it for the first time last Friday (the 20th, I think):

Frank, helping push the van: Did I mention that I'm the pre-eminent Proust scholar in the U.S.?

Frank (to Dwayne): Who do you hang out with?
(Dwayne shakes his head)
Frank: No one?
(Dwayne takes his little pad of paper and writes "I Hate Everyone" on it, and shows it to Frank)
Frank: What about your family?
(Dwayne underlines a word, shows the pad to Frank again, and the pad now reads "I Hate Everyone")

Dwayne (speaking): Just do what you love, and fuck the rest.

Sheryl (in the car, smoking, on her cell phone): I don't know when we're going to get there. (pause) I'm not smoking. (pause, throws cigarette out the window) I'm not!

The dad (I forget his name): Sarcasm is the refuge of losers. (I need to use this. Often. In a sarcastic way.)

(Frank and Dwayne must sleep in the same room because Frank is on suicide watch)
Dwayne (writing on his pad of paper): "Please don't kill yourself tonight."
Frank: Not on your watch.
Dwayne (writing): "Welcome to hell."

Olive: Miss California? Do you eat ice cream?
Miss California: I love ice cream! My favorite flavor is chocolate Cherry Garcia, although technically, I think that's a frozen yogurt. 'Kay?
Olive: Okay. (walks away with Sheryl) Mom! She eats ice cream!
Sheryl: I heard. (that part makes me smile)

3. From 'The Maltese Falcon'
Joel Cairo: You always have a very smooth explanation ready, huh?
Sam Spade: What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?

The whole movie's full of great lines, though.
