my theory on the "death cat"
the cat is really satan.

he goes to those about to die so he can capture their souls when they leave their bodies.

i think this is one more sign of the impending rapture.

1. I have a different theory...
The cat enjoys watching souls evacuate bodies...It's kind of like watching a birth.

My cats often seem to be looking at things I can't see...spirits? :D

10. Freaks me out when they do that
I have one in particular that will look up at a spot on the wall as if something or someone is there. It's weird.

14. They are telepathically communicating
with the mother cat from the cat nip galaxy. The Death cat, for instance, sends regular reports: "offed another one today x world domination any day now x"

31. My birds do that too.
They will stare at a spot, fixated by it--but nothing's there, at least nothing I can see.

6. Funny thing - I wasn't much of a cat person before I read about Oscar
It seems Oscar did for me what brazilians :silly: of cute kitten pics couldn't.

My mom was telling me that nursing home is affiliated with the one my 102 year old Nana is in. I said to keep her away from cats.

24. One thing I was wondering about that story
So the ward staff noted the connection between the cat and the old folks kicking the bucket. Didn't the guests notice as well?

Fuck off, cat! You ain't sleeping on my bed!

25. Hee, but that cat
they report, doesn't normally interact with people otherwise.

If you're alive and kickin' , he doesn't want anything to do with you.

12. They "warm" the blankets of dying patients
I think, like all cats, the cat likes a soft, warm place to sleep.

In my newspaper, the info about the warm blankets was at the end. That makes sense.

17. Naw...
More an angel if you're going to believe that stuff. Oscar is there until the end, especially for those people who would be comforted by the fact that they don't have to die alone. And because the nurses are well aware of his "success" rate, they have time to alert the families to come in for those last moments. The devil wouldn't give a goddamn.....

22. Thank you, Hyphenate.
You're the first one to point out that Oscar is
comforting them and staying with them at the end.

I think that's something everyone needs.

Hurrah for Oscar, the compassionate, caring cat!

:applause:

Sorry if I'm testy, but I've listened to Jay Leno's monologues
two nights in a row yap on about Oscar being the devil incarnate.

Man, some of his writers really, really suck.

Yes, I know he had both Bill Maher and Michael Moore on
this past week or so.I saw both shows. For Leno's show- that was a big leap.

Instead of pulling the plug, they can smother me with a big soft kitty belly. Heavenly!

23. I've thought about that
or maybe the dying process puts out some enzymes that aren't normally there that are an attractive smell to the cat.

That's how some dogs are able to pick out patients with bladder cancer.

Line up three people, give one of them a meal of Chinese dog food. Who does the cat walk toward?

26. To me, this story seems to lend some credence to what some say about cats and babies -
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 03:42 PM by smalll
You know, that cats can have the tendency occasionally to jump up on sleeping babies and suck the breath and life out of them? Maybe this cat is doing the same thing, but to old people.

29. For all the reputation cats have for aloofness, I have always found that
they're there when you need them. They have a definite sense of empathy.

30. that is so true.
though, my cats are not aloof by any means. my little angora is always near me. However, he tends to try hard to cheer me up, when I'm sick or feeling down.
