No shit. I know I live in a nice neighborhood, but $47 million??? Yes it is beach front in SoCal.

We rent, and at thees prices we will never ever be able to buy anywhere near here.

So what are homes going for in your neighborhood?

Just curious.

2. NYC, I believe it.
You can't even buy a trailer here for less than $300,000.

Maybe I just don't understand money.

5. My dear lilyhoney!
Wow, that's a lot of money!

No buyer here.......

Beachfront in SoCal will do that, though...

Supply and demand at work......

And vanity, and god knows what else...

My neighborhood is a very desirable zip code, and the homes are going for around $3 million...

:hi:

6. 3mil still way too much.
I love my little old landlord for renting to us a nice place at a great price in on of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country.

Hi Peggy. Always nice to see on my threads.

8. We couldn't afford it either!
Building on a lot that we already owned was much less money!

It sounds crazy, but it's true....

To see a pic of my home, check out my thread...on the new sign in the window!

10. I hate builders right now.
Homes going up around me on a postage stamp lot....for like 600 grand. I give the builder a heartfelt fuck you.

BTW, they destroy all the trees around the "McMansion" and then plant a twig in the front yard.

WHEEEE------don't forget about the 2 Coreys, tho.

a heart felt "oh fuck!" but my guess is not enough and not soon enough.

11. There's a 4 bd/3 ba home for $8.5 mil across the street from my parents' house.
It's ugly as sin. It's built out of concrete and looks like a prison. Nice view of the city, Sound and mountains, though.

Our neighborhood is probably between $700,000 and $1,200,000 now, which is somewhat frightening.

Way too much money, especially if it is a place to just store your other possessions.

There is a 2 bedroom bungalow two blocks south going for $369k; 2 blocks north is a small (less than 1000 sq ft) 4 bedroom bungalow listed at $569k. The former must need some renovations, as that's a very minute amount for this neighbourhood. :hi:

18. Two years ago there was a condo
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 11:52 PM by u4ic
in a building I used to live in going for $99k; in the area now, condos are going for $250k+. That building is also much nicer than the apartments-turned-condo in that area, so it's possible that it tripled in that time.

edited to point out that it is a rougher area of the city, too; I witnessed a police take down and car jacking in the short time I lived there.

Have you done that trip yet? We survived the big one, and we're coming to Edmonton next week, but just for a couple of days. We're staying in Leduc, actually. Our usual campground east of the city is just to far out of the way for this one.

edited to point out that your description sounds more like the better areas of Edmonton.

26. This is how I described the area last year
for a 'real estate' ad:

You'll feel safe in this area...the sports bar across the street ALWAYS has the cops there.

It's a vibrant area and exciting area...you, too, may witness your very first car jacking!

Wildlife abounds...especially after the football games at Commonwealth Stadium, right across the street!

An added bonus...the neighbourhood comes with its very own SERIAL KILLER! :bounce:

:P

Can you believe it was a mock ad I wrote for a condo in the building I used to live in - a 2 bedroom going for $99k? I said in an above post it was 2 years ago; turns out it was actually last spring. The value has basically tripled in the past year and a half! :o

I'm doing good, and enjoying the summer. I have yet to see your pics from Oregon you promised me, however.

I'm making the trip down your way late August or early September; my schedule's pretty flexible. I'll let you know when I'm coming down. I want to visit Spruce Meadows, so I'll be in your area. (run, RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :scared:

This week is uber busy for me, so even if you did have the time, I wouldn't be able to meet up. Have a great trip! (and be prepared for storms; we've had a number of doozies lately) :toast:

27. Sorry about the pics
They will be on flickr sooner or later; we're spending an awful lot of time cleaning out the condo. My sis is being useless in that respect. The pics were sporadic because we didn't have good internet access on our trip, too many places had it not working, or didn't have it at all. We had to send an important e-mail from a Zip's Drive-In in Spokane because the RV park's wifi was busted.

I know the neighborhood you talk of, you're lucky to be gone from there.

I hope it storms, I'm sick of the heat. We're seriously thinking of treating ourselves to central air when (if?) probate clears.

30. Yeah, that 's a rough neighbourhood
a friend still lives there, and her neighbour up and sold the place after being attacked by someone with a knife. Another incident a couple of weeks ago had a man almost beaten to death when he told some people in the alley to keep it down.

I'm from the Toronto area, and hadn't seen what I saw there. Yep, I'm sure glad to be rid of it, though a lot of younger families are moving in, and renovating those older homes. Give another 5-10 years, and it'll be a nicer place to live.

No problem about the photos, I gotta bug you somehow. ;) I look forward to seeing them whenever you have them uploaded.

We've had some wicked storms here, and still no break from the heat. I, too, am tired of the heat. I'll be very happy once it settles back down to a comfortable 25 or so. This 30 degree weather every day is a bit much. (I've run into a few people saying "I like the heat, but not this hot!" to which my response is "so then you don't like the heat!" :silly:)

Considering how warm it's been getting as of late, that central air might be a wise investment. I'm in a basement, but it's still quite warm in here.

19. just means the dollar isn't worth anything....
there is no reason on this earth for homes to cost as much as they do... or food, for that matter, or anything else.

But housing prices are ridiculously overinflated.

20. EXACTLY
And, home prices are inflated because debt is cheap. The people who are buying these homes are pure speculators who are looking to flip them for a quick profit. Thing is, debt is becoming more expensive, so the number of speculators will shrink and these prices will come down. However, that process will take a little while to complete.

But the dollars are pretty close to even these days. BTW, my house is a 1700 sf two story on a rather small lot. We'd prolly want ~475 for it.

Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 11:20 PM by Scooter24
depending on location in my immediate neighborhood. We got ours for slightly over $2m and thought it was a bargain considering the value of other homes down the block. We live in Cheney's old neighborhood so you can guess how my neighbors are :P

$47m is a bit out of my league I would think :hi:

Housing prices in California are pretty fucking ridiculous. I would love to get a condo in the new buildings that went up by Angel Stadium but they are going for the low $300,000's minimum. :wow:

But there are houses worth over 10 million not far away. Lucky for me, there are still rental apartments available in the area, and mine isn't crazy expensive.
