Stuck in Philadelphia Airport! Grrrr! Need entertainment.
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 06:17 PM by intheflow
OMG, today has been the travel day from hell. Up at 4am to catch a 7am flight. Not only did it leave about 15 minutes late, but then it flew around for an extra 40 minutes waiting for the thunderstorms to move away from the Philadelphia airport. That was ok since I had a 3 hour lay-over. HOWEVER, they cancelled :grr: my connecting flight, then cancelled the one they rescheduled me on. Now I'm on standby for one flight into the airport I was originally scheduled to fly into (45 minutes from my son's house), and booked on another flight which gets me into an airport two hours from my sons house.

So... both flights leave in about two hours. Meanwhile, I'm bored, since I've already been here for six hours. Anyone got suggestions for me to kill time?

On edit: fuck, fuck, fuck! The second I posted this, they changed the gate for my standby. Have to unplug and go to a new gate, but please respond, and I'll be bck in in 15 o 20 minutes at my new gate.

1. Oh, wow! I was stuck at the Philly airport for seven hours back in Oct.
:( My sister and I were flying to NW PA to see our father, and we had to take a connecting flight from Philly. It seems that if the wind blows, they cancel flights there. :eyes: So sorry you're stuck. I hope they call your flight soon!

4. Yeah, since the storms passed,
it's been sunny and cloudless. I think that rain delay completely fried the brains of the air traffic controllers here, so they've just been cancelling flights to keep themselves from going insane. This is the fallout of Reagan's union busting of air traffic controllers, no doubt! :grr:

2. friend of mine was stuck there earlier today
talked to him and he was waiting for his plane that was still on schedule but is the connecting flight for the last flight out of DFW for our fair city tonight. A flight that gets cancelled a fair amount.

Haven't heard to see if he made the connection yet.

hang in there!

Not sure if hey ever made it out--I'm sure their gate changed several thousand times, if they got out at all. Thanks for the encouraging words! :hi:

I finally got out of Philly at midnight--couldn't get back on DU at my new gate because none of the three electrical outlets actually worked at my new gate, and the battery was dead on the laptop.

I miss the Photo Group, too. Just been too freaking crazy since I moved to post photos, much less take any. Killing me b/c I'm back in Denver so have those beautiful mountain vistas to shoot... just haven't had the time or energy. I'll be back soon--to finish posting my Alaska photos! LOL

Edited to add: Philly is where usedtobesick grew up. He refers to it as either "Filthadelphia" or "The City of Brotherly Shove." 'Course he grew up in Marcus Hook, in the shadow of the oil tanks, so obviously Philly is a place he is glad to be from.

10. Oh, Marcus Hook, say no more...
it stank down there! Refineries. Smellaware.

I spent over 20 years but out in Chester County. Hope you get home safe and sound!

6. Stuck in Philly?
Oh wow. When I flew through Philly I had to run to catch my connecting flights. Flight from Charlotte to Philly had to wait 20 minutes because our gate was still occupied by another plane. And I needed to catch my flight back to Germany. I made it. But I sure hate Philly now.

8. Yes, it's NOT the airport to get stuck in.
Finally got out last night around midnight. Got on the plane about 10:30, mind you. We just sat on the runway for an hour and a half. :eyes:

Home now, though. Phew!

9. "Filthadelphia" has to be the worst airport
to be stuck in, specially at night. They even lock up the drinking fountains around 10 pm. After my nightmare of picking my mom up there I told her and anyone else that if they want me to drive an hour to an airport to pick them up they best pick BWI. We had to wait 8 hours after the original 2 hour delay for her flight. The hardest part was they lied about when it was landing. Twice they told us it had landed already and was taxing when it was still in the air. It was raining but not storming that night. Finally we got someone to tell us why Philly couldn't land planes while everyone else could. They said that their runways dip in toward the middle so rain pools and floods them before anything else. Mom's plane spent most of those hours we were waiting circling the airport waiting for the flooded runways to clear up. Except for when they had to go land at Norfolk, VA to refuel because they were running out of fuel.
Glad to hear you finally got to where you were going. Waiting patiently for you to get settled and post more pictures into the photo-group.
