Positive vibes for Zeke please.... |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 11:32 PM by MrsGrumpy
Zeke is my brother's dog. My brother picked him up from a shelter when he was 2 years old. Zeke had been abused and was suspicious and not very friendly. He barked at everyone, nipped at butts if you walked by his crate and was generally cantankerous.
Over 14 years Zeke has been my brother's best friend, his companion, his son. Over the years Zeke softened but still only really "connected" with my brother. They were a beautiful ( I know this sounds corny but bear with me) pair. I never saw such tenderness emanate from my brother until he was chosen by Zeke.
When he was 4, Zeke got his tail caught in a fence running to meet my brother and just ripped away leaving half his tail on that fence. Yet he continued on towards my brother wagging his little bleeding stump. Zeke is not the smartest of Man's Best Friend.
Zeke has lived with my brother for 14 years and two moves. All the way from Chicago to California....
Last week my brother called and told me that Zeke had woken up in the morning and couldn't walk. He took him to the vet, was assured that Zeke was not in pain and had either a stroke or slipped a disk. The vet sent him home with steroids in the hopes it was a slipped disk. Steroids make dogs pee...a lot. Zeke could not make it outside so my brother carried him. The next morning he could walk but still couldn't control himself...he would pee and then hastily try to lick it up, those old pre shelter fears of retribution for making a mess my brother guesses. To listen on the phone while my brother, choking back emotion, coddled and soothed him was almost too much for me. Zeke was the kind of dog who could "hold it" for 24 hours if he had to.
Sadly, the steroids have made a tumor on Zeke's eyelid grow extremely large. The vet did not want to do surgery on a 16 year old dog so they were sent to a specialist. Today was the day that Zeke went in for surgery to remove the tumor. My brother was told that anything could happen with a dog this age...but again, this is his son. He has helped my brother through many heartaches and much loneliness.
I hurt for my brother as he is faced with the mortality of his closest and most trusted of friends...
If you could spare some positive vibes for this little scrapper it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Laura

|
and am sending warm and healing thoughts to them both. Dogs give so much and ask for so little.

9. Good vibes, strong prayers and hugs coming their way |

There is nothing sweeter than a tale of someone like your brother saving a dog like this and giving him such a wonderful life.
Our animals are like angels given to us and should be treated as such - just as your brother did.
I know your brother's pain - I hope all goes well for both of them.

Zeke is doing well!!! He came home this morning. He's a bit groggy but doing great. The vet also cleaned his teeth while he was under in the hopes it will help him eat better. He's got a cone on his head and is sleeping most of the time. The vet said she had never seen a 16 year old dog come through surgery so well.
Thanks for your prayers and positive vibes all. They Worked!!! Thanks for caring about this little dog.
Hugs,Laura

20. When my beloved 17-year-old cocker couldn't walk, |
|
I too him for veterinary acupuncture. Actually, he was already being treated with this for calcification of his spine. When he suddenly couldn't walk, I took him for electro-acupuncture. He was soon walking again, honestly.
My heart goes out to your brother. I know what a bond there can be, like between me and my Barney. Our best vibes for Zeke are coming his way, as well as some for your brother.:grouphug:
