Tell us about the time you got crabs

On the open ocean. Buying them at the supermarket just isn't the same.

1. Last summer

Westport, Washington.



Had to return females and males under a certain size.

Mostly an excuse to sit on the dock and drink beer.

Boiled them whole and still kicking in seawater on the beach.

They were yummy.

2. Do you know that Alaskan crab fisher people now have to

travel over 400 miles at sea to get the King crabs? It's astounding.

3. I watch the Discovery Channel

It's tightly regulated now as they are trying to allow the species to rebound. Some seasons now sapn only several days.

That said, I prefer the sweeter meat of the Dungeness to that of the Alaskan King. Though futzing around with the much smaller Dungeness can be frustrating.

4. Every time I go to Port Arthur, TX, I go crabbing.

We always catch at least two 5-gallon buckets of blue crabs, using just a string, chicken necks, and a scoop net. I love to crab!

5. I got them in the Chesapeake Bay, when I was a kid!

There was a crab invasion. For about a week it seems like all we did was pick crabs!
