Here's Charley, a "special needs" kitty
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJQG6V1MOVY

What a good puss! He has cerebellar hypoplasia, so, as the clip says, his motor skills aren't so hot.

We had a special kitty once, her name was Charlotte. A beautiful longhair calico. Her mother was an alley cat, and was caught outside in a severe cold snap when pregnant, which can produce reformed kittens. She had most of her toes missing, and those she had were all sort of fused together. So, she couldn't move very fast, just sort of hopped about, but she managed quite well, actually. I met her two brothers once, they had extra toes, strangely, but they also had serious digestive problems, whereas Charlotte's only trouble was in her feet. Otherwise, she was perfectly healthy, a little tubby, and had the loudest purr ever, which would start up when you walked into the room. She had a good life, but she's been gone four years now. We still miss her.

Anyone else with special pets?

1. awww, i love Charley...
Tim was a rescue found in a wood pile out by Sac Metro, they were about to have him destroyed cause no one wanted him being so feral, he must have been treated very poorly, it tool him nearly a year to come out from under our bed where he slept

at my myspace page, i have many special needs kittys & their humans, it is a wide & vast community of caring

thank you for posting: Charley, he's very sweet

2. He looks like my Frankie when he was younger! Frankie even likes to sit on the
couch like that (where he looks like he should have a beer or something).

I love Charley so much! Thanks for posting this movie.

And RIP Charlotte. She sounds wonderful. Frankie's brother Beans was pretty "special." In fact, if cats can have something like Down's Syndrome I think he had it. Boy was he cute though, and so much fun, even though he was dumber than a rock. Beanie has been gone for four years now as well. It took years for Frankie to get over it.

4. We had a ferret, SOX, who became paralyzed (waist down) at age 4.
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 03:16 PM by mikeytherat
It was sudden and very strange, and we and our vets never did know why (although we did find information about a few other cases just like ours). In order to help her get around, we made a sling for her belly and legs out of Gore-Tex tent fabric that was velcro-ed around her waist. Up until the time she was paralyzed, she had been the Alpha ferret, and she kept this title for many more years. She ran with her two front legs, and could pull herself around the carpeted basement almost as fast as the other ferrets. She climbed curtains, she pounced on and delivered many beatings to her siblings, and pretty much acted like any other ferret. She lived for three more years (7 total), which is pretty geriatric for American ferrets.

6. I have two special needs kitties
This is Morrison..he was a rescue/foster and was obese when I got him. I have to wipe his butt because he can't reach back there to clean it. He weighs 42lbs.

And this is Daniel. She is special because she is 23-years-old. She hates other cats so she lives up on my desk with her own food/water dish. She gets wet food three times a week. My other cats don't care for wet food for some reason. She also gets my left overs from my meals. She LOVES human food!
