The "I never wanted to be rich and famous" quote
By various celebrities, musicians, actors and the like. Do you really think they mean it?

3. They usually say it in interviews with the media
Then when the media isn't watching them they make a big announcement that they're going into rehab. Not all, some.

2. No.
It's unlikely that they were completely unmotivated by wealth and fame. Almost everyone would like to have some level of wealth and fame, even if it's only just a little. Nobody wants to be unknown and destitute.

4. The artists who are struggling
Sharing bologna sandwiches and eating canned tomatoes just to live would like enough work just to eat and pay the bills. Self absorbed, full of themselves or guilt in some cases.

5. No
Most of the ones who say it seem to be the same ones who aggressively court the media, show up at all the "hot spots" and can't seem to stay home one night of the week.

6. no of course not, it's just a polite way of being modest
in some cases it may be a lack of self esteem, such that they are uncomfortable and uneasy w. public attention, example kurt cobain, he seemed unhappy with fame, but i suspect that BEFORE he got rich and famous and felt pinned in by the spotlight, he thought it would something different and actually desired it

my theory anyway

i do think fame must be highly unpleasant, but i'd be happy to give "rich" a try

however, for many people who are naturally performers, most of them fame -- attention -- is life's blood to them

7. No. If they were poor and unknown, they'd say, "I never wanted to be poor and unknown."
