15. Constantine's Sword: the Church and the Jews, by James Carroll.
I've had it around for a couple of years and am finally reading it, thanks to InternalDialogue's 2007 New Year's Resolution Bulletins on MySpace. Various marriages in my family made the Catholic/Jewish issue one that directly affects me and my family. The book is written by an ex-Catholic priest. Recommended.

32. I am reading the brazilian joke.
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

Have you ever read "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan"? Beautiful book about friendship between two women, set back in the times of when foot-binding was done. I learned a lot about that horrific procedure from that book, but it was also fascinating, too.

37. Well, it's my lucky day!
I went to the library for lunch and the shelving lady placed "A Thousands Splendid Suns" on the bookcase (the hold list is over 200). Not only that one, but Al Gore's "Assault on Reason" was also just placed on the shelf. I had gone to pick up my hold copy of "When a Crocodile Eats The Sun", and then I also picked up a new novel called "Hooked". So, guess I'll be busy. Now if only I could be on a real vaction floating in water and sitting under the shade with a cool drink as I read all my boos one by one.

It was very engaging to me (so much so that I was reading it on Saturday night, got completely absorbed in it, and ended up reading it until literally 6 am Sunday morning). If you're reading the paperback, the very last chapter is the best, IMHO.
