did anyone else figure we would have cloned wooly mammoths by now? |
|
or am i the only one?
after they cloned the sheep, i figured some scientists would work on bringing wooly mammoths, dodo birds, passenger pigeons, thylacines and other recently extinct species back to life. i figured by now we would be able to go to a cryptozoo and see mammoths in real life. and once they did that, i figured it wouldn't be to much longer before they brought dinosaurs back ala jurrasic park.
what the hell is taking them so long?

2. AND we could have trained them to chaffeur us around in our flying cars |
|
but no we have to sit around and wait for our "alcoholic" attention whore cousins in the oil industry run in yelling "Wait wait wait I want to do this..." and so forth like always and we all have to stop what we were doing until they get THEIR WAY because we have to appease them you know :eyes:

15. like i said....not on their best day |
|
bill walton was great, but michael jordan changed the nba. look at some of the centers the bulls had on their championship teams. they had luc longley for chrissakes and they were winning 70 games a year and sweeping teams in the playoffs. it didn't matter who they had at center on those teams....you or i could have played center on those teams, a broomstick with a head and no arms could have played and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. so, yeah, 5 michael jordans could beat any team you put up against them and it wouldn't even be close.

8. how can you clone an extinct animal? |

wouldn't you need at least one of the extinct species, at least a female one, to birth it?

...and there's plenty of mammoth dna around as they find them thawing out from time to time near the arctic circle.

14. passenger pigeons would be interesting ... |
|
Their egg incubation period was even shorter than a chicken's (2 weeks compared to 3). Of course, one would have to hand-feed the first generation of squabs for a few weeks, but the diet for that can be mixed up with the ingredients found in most kitchens (and all pet stores have formula that would work).
With large areas of the east coast returning to forest, there might even be habitat for them. The absence of the American chestnut (killed off by disease in the last century) might be an issue, since it provided part of the diet, BUT I hear that a resistant variety of the tree has been bred. And there are always acorns and beechnuts!
