Boo Hiss! Just got back from the garage.
I had to get a state inspection and get the oil changed. That part went fine. Only cost me 57 bucks.

Seems my (new to me) Honda CR-V needs a whole new a/c system! :grr:

Which will cost about $3K , :grr: :nuke:

The service manager is trying to negotiate to let me be a charity case since I don't have a warranty and 28K is a little young for the a/c to go. *sniff*

Commiserate with your car repair horror stories and wish me luck!

1. Oh, that is awful.
I know Hondas are notorious for having the A/C die, but at 28K? That seems ridiculous.

So sorry. I just spent $1200 to get TeenMidlo's car back. Something about the manifold or some other doo hickey. :nuke:

3. Tell me about it!
I wasn't expected to have to deal with that kind of repair for another, oh 70K miles!

$1200 bucks is still a lot too. Geez. I'm sure TeenMidlo knows how much you sacrifice to keep her on the road. ;-)

Where's my air car I was promised, like in the Jetsons?

5. We got such a good deal on the car, I really couldn't complain.
But it still was a tough check to write.

I'm sorry. Cars are a major PITA aren't they?

6. Yes, they are
Why do they still have moving parts that wear out?

2. 28K? That's ridiculous!
Did the warranty lapse when the car was sold? Even if it did, it seems like a failure that early is the kind of defect that should never be allowed to be 'out of warranty"...

4. I have to look at the BOS again
I think I got just the usual extended drive train warranty.

I did not sign up for an extended Honda warranty. Perhaps I should have. However, this SUV was declared A-OK for me to purchase last year (by this same garage). If the A/C were showing signs of wear, they should have told me then.

7. If it really does need a new AC then that is really unlucky
28K is not a little young, it's totally unacceptable. In fact if the car was under 3 years old it would probably still be under warranty, with that mileage.

8. Thanks for the hug, BillySkank
I need it right now.

Yeah, it's a 2002 model though. I bought it because I couldn't believe I had found a car with such low milage at a price I could afford. Most of the other cars around here were newer models but they 1) had higher milage 2) were more expensive to boot.

9. I guess there's no possibility of doing without?
I mean, my first two cars had no AC at all, although the weather here tends not to require AC most of the time.

Have another.

10. I can, although I look like
a boilt lobster by the time I get to my destination. Friends and family ask if I'm having a stroke. :P

This feels like the South, circa 1966 BAC (Before Air Conditioning)

12. I do without it for short trips
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 05:07 PM by supernova
and often to, to say the grocery store and for small trips of 20 minutes or less.

But much longer than that I begin to over heat.

edit: I would much prefer to have it if I need to go to an interview. I don't want to go to a potential employer looking bedraggled.
