Is the new Nicole Kidman pic, "The Invasion," another remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"? |
|
It certainly looks that way from the TV commercial for it.
I loved the old "Invasion." The black and white small town America and the feeling of inevitability was truly scary. The remake with Donald Sutherland about 25 years ago was pretty good and had a great line when his friend came to him saying that her husband just was not himself. He asks, "Did he turn gay...or become a Republican?"
But the classic is still that wonderful honey from the 50s. A frightening film...

Is the Sutherland remake already 25 years old? I'm switching to Centrum Silver...

2. That was my ballpark estimate. I thought it was during the early 80s but I could be wrong. |
|
Perhaps a fig newton of my imagination!

4. Looks like Veronica Cartwright plays a shrink in the movie |
|
She was in the remake and was sent to the shrink. Love stuff like that. Love Veronica Cartwright.

7. You're right...have you ever seen episodes from the old "Cisco Kid" TV show... |
|
it was made before my time, but was aired in reruns when I was a kid. It was absolutely a product of the 50s red scare era. EVERY episode invoved a "bad guy" pretending to be a "good guy"

11. Actually, the original was a book... |
|
and the author and the filmmaker for the first film version said they didn't have communism in mind, it was simply a science fiction story.
This will actually be the fourth film version.

12. I was SO disapppointed by the remake of "The Manchurian Candidate." |
|
Even Meryl Streep didn't save that movie. The original was a classic. I loved everything and everybody in that film. The remake was a horrible hash of melodrama, while the original calmly underplayed the bad feeling you start to get with Lawrence Harvey's character.

8. That old black and white. |
|
In end when the guy hears the music and he starts walking towards it, there's a tree in the fork of the road. One day, a few years back, my future husband and I were in Pacific Pallisades (Santa Monica-ish, CA) and saw that very spot where it was filmed. I was like, OMG that's the tree in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I liked the one with Donald Sutherland too.
