Despite his politics, I like Charleton Heston
He has made some really good and some really fun movies. I was on another message board and I guess he is really going down. I feel bad for him. Apparently he use to be a Democrat ( I did not know this)So, what happened? Anyone else here like Chuck Heston the actor?

10. Will Penny
He was never better.

A real shame he was seduced by the dark side.

24. Oh yeah!
When he shouts "FOR SPAIN! FOR SPAIN!" it's like the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V, the "short form."

5. It's tough to watch him after seeing Bowling for Columbine.
Shit, I didn't even feel bad when Michael Moore pinned his ass to the wall toward the end of the film.

6. imo -- a very wooden actor
And, I am NOT basing that on his politics.

He used to be very, very pro birth control/family planning/planned parenthoodish. Guess his well-known homophobia won out, eh?

9. You're right; he is an incredibly wooden actor, and like you...
I don't base that on his politics. I would feel the same way about his acting even if Heston were a liberal. In fact, Gregory Peck was a lifelong Democrat, and I think he was another stiff.

8. Used to be a liberal Democrat -- really big on civil rights
maybe the civil rights thing and the gun rights thing are both based in libertarianism?

Unfortunately, many Hollywood liberals were seduced to conservativism when one of their own got elected president in 1980, and that seems to have been part of the story with Heston

Damned Dirty Apes!!!!!!!

14. He had already been wealthy for years before he turned
Your explanation explains the change in lots of rich people, but Heston was rich during the time he was progressive. Strange transformation, indeed.

11. same with Reagan
a Democrat actor manipulated and turned to the dark side only to succumb to Alzheimer's. Though Reagan never made a film I liked. I do like all of Heston's sci-fi movies.

16. Omega Man & The Ten Commandments
I'm able to still watch them and forget about his "cold dead hands".

I thought that he and Rosiland Cash made a cute couple in Omega Man.

17. He ain't wooden, he is a ham-bone of the first order
and that is why I love his cheesy movies. That giant mellifluous voice, the over-the-top acting.

"55 Days in Peking" is my fave, with Ava Gardner.

19. I like the the backhanded compliment that Olivier paid to Heston...
when he said that he "had the the equipment to be a great actor"
True, that face, voice, physique...
Too bad Chuckles just didn't have any talent or taste.
However, he was unique in that he combined stiffness and scenery-chewing hamminess

20. He played "larger than life" parts quite well and was a boyhood
hero of mine. I can separate acting from their politics with many actors, but not Heston. I can't watch him anymore.

23. I sat next to his wife one time.
My friend was graduating from Pepperdine University in Mailbu in the spring of 1984. It was a rather small graduation ceremony, held outdoors in an ampitheater. A lovely lady was sitting next to me and she was polite and courteous. I had no idea who she was until the announcer named several of the people in the audience as "special guests today." One of them was "Mrs. Charlton Heston" and she stood up and waved. They said that Charlton Heston was in Europe or somewhere filming a movie. One of their children was graduating that same day. I have no idea what Charlton Heston is like in person, but his wife is polite and charming.
