Weird, I know. But I loved it. I can still sing the music in my head.
You can download it now from the internet, but it's just not the same. I think true enjoyment of 80's arcade games involves the presence of other teenagers, the smell of arcade food, and a authentic console.

14. Especially the pre-debugged Tempests!! |
|
The ones where you could get a score between 160-180,000, shoot your spikes so your last two digits of your score read 46, 47 or 48 (forget the exact number) . .. wait about two cycles of demos . . .
40 free credits.
50 cents lasted me a whole afternoon of fun with the laundromat Tempest.
Atari corrected this bug on later machines for obvious reasons.
Others:
Dig Dug Bosconian Cloak and Dagger Crystal Castles Gyruss Robotron 2084 Millipede Donkey Kong Jr Super Pac-Man (I was really good at this, but not the original for some reason). Mach 3 Time Pilot
Cedar Point, God bless 'em, has several retro games in the back of their gameroom. Some of them even work.

Children's Hospital in Boston has a Ms. Pac Man/Galaga coffee table-style combo machine set to free play in the patient entertainment area. Let me tell you, those games are STILL popular with kids, even though console games are available on the patient floors!

I friggin' ruled on that game. I would have my Walkman turned up loud (Genesis Three Sides Live) and rack up a whole bunch of 1UPs. They're easy to get, and if you can get at least two before you get assimilated, you can rack up a high score. The trick is to be able to move in one direction while firing in another.

27. I can't remember the name. Maybe one of you can help. |
|
(I was only 8 or so at the time I used to play it- about 1987/88). If I remember correctly, it was a side scroller where you were a spaceman/astronuat? who could shoot and jump. When you put your coin in, you could pick which planet you wanted to land on. Each planet was slightly different than the others.
