Does any one remember the toy cars from the 70s...
That had the big wheel in the middle of the car, and a slot next to the wheel. You put a plastic stick that teeth down it into the slot and then pulled it out as fast as you could. The faster you pulled it the faster the car went.

Do you know the name of those cars? I would love to find some, I loved those things.

1. Wow, I had those.
They came with plastic ramps and bricks so you could build walls they could smash into.

Heck if I can remember what they're called, though.

4. COOL Thanks...
To bad they don't make them anymore. :(

I loved those things. I like our house, had really long wood hallways. Those things would fly.

My grandfather actually bought a Yugo. It was an okay car -- it went 0-35 in three minutes.

22. I once worked with a guy who had THREE Yugos including the Convertible!
He had been an exec with East Coast Yugo before it all went down in (rusty) flames around 1989-90. And let me tell you, the Convertible was something to behold - you really need to see the fit and finish of the convertible top and it's folding mechanism to believe just how bad it is (a buddy at the time had a late 70s VW Cabriolet with almost no fabric left on the top, and it was more watertight than the '88 Yugo!).

26. There was a joke about Yugos back in the day
Q: Do you know why the Yugo has a rear window defroster?

A: To keep your hands warm when you're pushing them.

Buh-dum-dum!

11. GAHHHH don't even get me started on those!
STPs, they were. I forget what "STP" stood for. All I remember is that some boys in kindergarten had them and were racing them around. I thought they looked like fun and asked if I could have a turn. They said "NO! You're a GIRL. You have to go play with dolls."

HUMPH!!!

'Course, this was 1971. I HOPE times have changed since then.

20. So I was very succinctly informed, lo those many years ago!
At the time, I just cried. Some guys try that on me now, they'd get turned into a Post Toastie!

I had my revenge, though. I played with Tonka trucks and Hot Wheels at home. Now I drive a Jeep Wrangler...very, um...vigorously!

24. A friend got one Christmas morn and his dad destroyed it in 30 seconds!
This was the Evel Knieval motorcycle one with the wind-up stand:

His mom was telling his dad, "You're gonna break it! You're gonna break it!" Well, apparently dad revved the hell out of it, and released it...directly into a wall. My buddy said the whole front end of the cycle exploded (snapped wheel and handlebars off), and Evel's head came off and he lost a hand (never found). He also says he wasn't really upset because he knew he'd get another one and, anyway, the wreck was really, really cool.

28. Ha Ha -- that's funny!!
I can see the Mom yelling at the Dad (who is, of course, ignoring her.) and then smashing the toy into the wall as the kids watch their toy destroyed before their very eyes.

That cracks me up.

33. I have a great photo of my dad and his buddy with my slotcar set. Drunk.
Christmas afternoon and his buddy (a fellow AF pilot across the street) comes over with a traditional Christmas pitcher of margaritas (we lived in Florida at the time). So here's dad and his buddy, pretty well lit, into this really intense slotcar race, and I've got a great photo of it!

Man we were hard on our toys. I used to make my big Tonka truck go down the stairs til my mother put a stop to that one. I went through a bag of those green army men about every two weeks.

Forget about real lookin dudes!

I lost several GI Joes on sewer spelunking missions and roof recon (tied to kite string).

Hot wheels were sorta safe until we got the tracks involved. We stopped getting the tracks out after we shot a car through a china cabinet glass and dad used a track for the beating :D

Good times!
