11. More than once.
When my father died.

When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer (she survived it).

When I found out I was pregnant, and then when I gave birth to my daughter.

And when I got a PM that really changed things.

Many other examples, but I'll just post these.

14. yes in a heartbeat
maybe a single one at that

life

love

career

loss

friends

missing

many times over, it is always one heartbeat at a time, one breath at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time. It's all we have, and the precious moment is all we ever truly have.

a "change in a moment," though; it lasted several months.

while we're gone.

Just relaxing with old friends and cousins and driving around looking at things. (And scouting out locations for my next magazine articlem which activity is covered by the "driving aournd and looking at things" part.

35. She's in St. Paul
I'm trying not to be a dramatic worrywart but it's hard - I was out there last summer for her wedding and we were back and forth over that very bridge - I know she uses it a lot and I haven't yet heard from her.

She was in Manhattan for 9/11 - luckily, she had the presence of mind to email me fairly early so I knew she was okay. I haven't heard from her yet and it makes my tummy hurt.

thanks for the good thoughts - I'm sure she's all right - I'm a mom, though, so I have to panic. It's a rule.

28. Yeah, a lot in the last 2.5 years
It did when my mom died.

Then her best friend.

When my X died.

When my kids I had not heard or seen in 8 years called me.

When my wife had an asthma attack.

When she was diagnosed with parkinson's disease.

When I lost two jobs in one month, this month to be exact.

And it is changing again as my wife is so sick she will probably be in the hospital tomorrow at this time.

And that is just the last 2 years, and does not include many other things prior to that which have stuck with me. Losing my boys, My X GF finally wanting to marry, only because she was pregnant, best friends dying in various ways, and so on.

It changes all the fucking time. I just wish it would stay the same for a spell.

31. Yes and just a few weeks ago
Instead of growing old with my wife, I'm now going to make a whole new life as a divorced dad.

When my father died, even though I was middle aged, with my own family living in a different town with an independent life, his death changed my life in ways I couldn't appreciate until it happened.

37. that bridge -
probably my son's bus rode across it going to and coming from camp just a couple of weeks ago.

I can't imagine how I'd be feeling if it had've collapsed with him on it. That's scary enough...

Life changing moments. Getting pregnant - and having - my daughter & son.

Running into a social worker who just happened to have a baby who needed a home to go to by the next morning. (Said foster is now my nearly 9 yo son!)

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time - a few times.

Being in the right place at the right time - not often enough. :(

And sometime you THINK - at the time - it's one of those, but in the long run, it turns out to be the other. Go figure.

Of course it has, sometimes for the better but more often for the worse. My great comfort is knowing that most people have experienced what I have one way or another.

39. that time and then that other time
I've put myself through a lot of drama but the two things I didn't plan changed methe most- when I was 12 my house burned & and when I was 29 I had a TBI.
But whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger, that's what I tell myself, and I think I have strange luck so something good is bound to happen someday.

But, I can't see a reason for things like the people killed together on the bridge, or the thousands killed in the WTC's or the people in New Orleans who had nowhere to go. I'd like to believe in karma or meaningful fate but it's hard too, luck mightreally be random.
