Do your cats flip on the sight of the vaccum cleaner
even before you turn it on? All three of mine do.

1. yep
they do not like it. What is even funnier is seeing my rabbit with the broom. He hates the broom so much, it's like he wants to fight it or something.

2. Mine aren't bothered by it as long as it sits quietly and doesn't move.
I'm a slob, so the vacuum often sits sleeping in the middle of the living room because I'm too lazy to put it away. As a result the cats are used to seeing it. It's only when I switch it on and it wakes up that they freak out and run away.

6. When I was a kid
there used to be this cat in the neighborhood that would go from roof to roof and climb down the chimneys. It was a calico and she was always filthy! We never found out whose cat it was because even though she had a collar with tags, she was always on the roofs. Out of reach....

7. OK, this thread is being locked!
A cat thread without pictures?! C'mon! that's just cruel.

Of course, I don't really have the power to lock . . . so carry on.

8. No, but my 5 y/o does
She still has to close herself up in her room. When she was younger she couldn't be in the same room with it even if it was off!

She is very sensitive to loud noises.

9. Nope, Ginger's used to it and can sleep right through it.
When he was little, he'd sometimes try to chase the vacuum cleaner or hitch a ride on it. :eyes:

10. my dog attacks my poor innocent vacuum cleaner
but then I got a roomba and he runs away from it because it scares him. I have no idea why since it's much smaller than the vacuum cleaner.

It's pretty entertaining to watch him run away, jump on the couch and then bark when it gets near him.

11. My cats do!
Except for Tinker. She's a very laid back cat. Other cats simply run to hide when I pull out my vac cleaner, not on! LOL

hell, you just have to open the closet where it's kept and all of them scatter

the funniest part is that the big male is terrified of the vaccuum but walks right up to the lawn mower :wtf:

15. Yeah
I thought leaving it sitting out would help condition them to it.

Instead they took turns peeing on it.

They all run in opposite directions and then stop and look around for what it was that scared them.. then they all go back to their naps :)

18. No, Katie can barely raise to the point of suggesting "go around".
She thinks the vacuum is rude to be intruding on her chosen piece of carpet. This is a true thing. :)

29. Oh, I didn't read that part
My parents used to have a deaf rabbit that used to run free in their backyard. He would lay down right in front of the riding mower and you had to be careful that you didn't run him over.

28. Yes our boy gay cat does
The first time he ever experienced it was when I broke a glass in the kitchen 5 years ago. He freaked out, as he is wont to do, and so my wife was sitting on the bed holding him when I cut on the vacuum. She describes what happened next as his "turning inside out and doing a 360 and a flip with a twist"

He scratched up her arms so bad that we had to got to a doc-in-a-box. Only problem was that they had to report this to the city so he went on a 10 day quarantine, I had to take time off work so they could come and see if he was dangerous, and THEN he had a years probation. Our gay cat has a record.

Upon telling this story to a co-worker who had been advisin me on the whole new-to-me cat owning process "Oh yeah don't do that. They HATE vacuum cleaners" :eyes:
