I got popped in the HOV lane...

I overslept this AM and had about 1 hour to get showered, dressed, fed and make a trip from Woodbridge to Arlington, VA...a trip that normally takes me an hour in good traffic.

To make matters worse, the traffic report indicated that there were significant delays along I-95/395...

So, being the enterprising dude I am, I decided to make use of the beautifully empty HOV lanes (3 or more people per car). I was relishing passing thousands and thousands of cars who were stuck on the other side of the Jersey barrier.

About 2 miles from my exit, I got popped by the VA State Police and now I have a ticket for $125 (plus court fees).

remember that although you might be saving gas, if everyone else is standing still in the lanes left over, it might be more efficient for the the HOV lane to be used as a normal lane. I'd like to see some proof that HOV lanes actually improve efficiency.

Non-HOV traffic was at a standstill. The ticket-issuing took about 10 minutes, so time-wise, I still came out ahead.

What's really going to suck is the shit I'm going to get from my wife when I tell her tonight.
