1. Cheap intimidation tactic.
I'd refuse their offer just out of spite. Jerk.

2. Oh, there is no offer pending. They bought a house in southern Maine.
One wonders about what motivates that sort of comment. If the house was too expensive, or not clean enough, or in disrepair, just say so. Whether or not I'm eager to leave the house shouldn't be a factor in the sale. Hi, kay1864! :hi:

12. Yeah, that's a stupid thing to say. Why bother even commenting?
That's like when people comment about the furniture or draperies. Uh, duh, it's not going to be there when you buy it.

6. Here:
http://www.visualtour.com/shownp.asp?T=1083697

Heck, watching the tour I want to stay! Half the furniture is gone with my husband to his house. 5000 sq. ft, no pool, full but unfinished basement, larg in-town lot two doors down from Stephen King (which actually seems to deter buyers...)

13. Holy crap! Nice place! And it's actually in our price range.
Can you somehow transport it to Chicago? Because a house half that size and half as nice would be well over $1M in my neighborhood.

Not that I'd mind living in Maine, except for winter. I definitely wouldn't mind living near Stephen King.

14. Goddamn.. That is cheap.
Note to self: retire in Maine. That is a damn mansion compared to what the people across the street are selling. And they want 400K for a shitty (amazingly shitty) house on .5 acres.

That is around River Road and Beltline.

17. I know the River Road!
Housing was expensive even when I lived in Eugene. And this place is a mansion, of sorts. A mansion we can't afford to heat or pay taxes on. Heh. Hi, Ompahlo :hi:

I'm just curious.. Feel free to tell me that it is none of my business. I won't mind.

And yeah, I could imagine that utilities would be insane in that place. Hopefully you can unload the place soon.

Hello back at ya!

It was a divorce situation and they accepted a lowball offer.

35. It might, for certain buyers.
We get the most positive comments on our dining room, which we haven't changed at all since we bought the house. People who buy these houses aren't the same people who buy the raised ranches.

I can't believe that that house is selling for that price. It looks perfect for a B&B, though living near Stephen King might make people irrational about staying there.

I don't know what the market's like in Maine, but your house would have been snapped up (at three times the price) where I live.

Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 04:44 PM by LibraLiz1973
WTF isn't it selling?
You need to get "Designed to Sell" in there or "Sell THis House".

From watching the shows religiously my guesses as to their suggestions would be:

1. Paint the bathroom with the green toilet and sink a neutral color.

2. Get rid of some of your living room furniture.

3. Get rid of the couch that is in the entry way

4. Wallpaper KILLS sales. Paint the living & dining rooms

That was literally ALL I could think that one of those shows would tell you.

If I lived in Maine I would grab that house in a New York minute- it is GORGEOUS!!

45. Lovely home. Can I make a suggestion?
It looks very well lived in.

Perhaps less of your stuff and more bland colored furniture? Less carpets (they are lovely) and more floor. Think spartan. The idea is its easier for people to imagine their stuff in your (present) space if the surroundings aren't too decorate-y.

Oh and the smell of cookies baking or freshly baked cookies is always a good idea. :-)

Since those pictures were taken my husband has moved out and taken half the furniture! Some of the rooms are now empty and the living room has a couch, a piano and a desk in it, not much more. There are no pictures on the walls any more. The cats are still here, though!

48. what a gorgeous house!!!! Wish it was down here in TX
I would want to buy it right after I won the Texas LOTTO!! Such a wonderful example of 19th Century Maine ...complete with connection to the barn from upstairs. An old friend of mine from college grew up in Belfast and his folks had one of those rambling old Maine farm houses, with barn access etc. Add a room for Grandma, and the house keeps growing LOL.

LOVE THE KITCHEN!
