I paid $7 for three pounds of tomatoes and two pounds of yellow squash
today, to an older couple around the corner who have a pretty rocking garden. Squash is on the grill right now, tomatoes are layered with some mozzarella and olive oil.

Two thoughts - it's not so bad living out here in the hinterlands sometimes, and I really need to get Chris into gardening next summer so I can get back into it myself.

2. It's this time of the year that I love driving across DelMarVa
all the fruit and vegetable stands...a person can go broke stopping every few miles

5. Isn't summer great?.
Food tastes like food.

My father enjoyed having me "help" the garden when I was about 2 years old. There are pictures of me surrounded by plants twice my height. I think your little guy will be ready.

6. yeah, I know.
Damn, the tomatoes and cheese farking ruled. I think he'll be ready, too - I have fond memories of attacking the dried-out okra stalks in my dad's garden, kung-fu style. :D

7. My way with yellow squash...
I dice the squash up pretty finely. I also dice up a good bit of onion. I add both of them to a pot with a strip of thick bacon in it and bring to a boil. After it boils, I reduce the heat to a light simmer, add a lid and set my timer for 30 minutes.

After it is done, I add some salt and a few twists from my pepper mill.

YUM!

I realize there are many ways to prepare this vegetable, but this one is pretty tasty.
