You Have to Sell Yourself. |
|
This has to be my least favorite sentence in the english language. People tell me this all the time in regards to job interviews. Personally I chafe against this really stupid but true attitude. Mainly it tells me that it does not matter how smart or qualified you are for a position, you need to project something. While I understand that projecting something is important, it is way overemphasized. This is why we have a fucking moron for a president. Image is unfortunately everything. You need to conform to peoples expectations and the gifts that make a person truly unique. It does not matter how smart you are or how hard you work, it is about projecting an image. This is why we have people that are morons getting all the praise and the irredeemable losers seem to get ahead in life many times. I know I am being negative but some people can be really stupid.

Couldn't agree more. Why aren't more people repulsed by the idea? It means that the YOURSELF you are selling is, like everything else on the market, NOTHING, except as it appeals to those with the power to purchase it.

2. I don't like competitive job interviews |
|
I am not an actress nor am I an extrovert. I might not be their perfect image but I will get the job done well. For some jobs being able to do this is a qualification in itself. Sales is an example of such a position. For other jobs like technical careers, making good impressions on strangers is far from the most important job skill. The person who has perfected this skill usually gets the job anyway over people with stronger more important job skills.

3. Actually, It's Nothing New |

We learn it in High School to get a date or we don't.
It's pretty much a continuation of what we've learned, although Enron took the attitude to an extreme level.
