Post something nice that happened to you in the last 48 hours.
Hmmm...OK. I'll start.
My son and I had an argument this morning and tonight he gave me $20 without me asking. ;)
My son bought bean and jalepeno dip & chips last night and he shared it with me and a movie.
The guy at the convenience store remembered my asking for a pack of matches last week and
made a point tonight of giving me a pack!! ;) My car is on the red line for gas level and it's still running! :P

I'm hoping. I'm trying not to touch them, but I find myself inadvertently doing so.

The biggest problem is just being housebound. I'm going stir-crazy and starting to feel claustrophobic.

I'm making plans now to have a little bbq tomorrow with my bf and our best friend and sit out on the patio and enjoy it.

I'm finding the emotional part of dealing with this as bad as the physical part.

Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 02:28 AM by BlueIris
tactless, overly-critical and had possible abusive tendencies.

We had a nice chat about the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee that I found comforting. I thought I was going to have to convince her to see things my way (we used to butt heads about the Democrats a lot, despite both being generally progressive folks). Nope. We are of like minds about that touchy subject. So, that was nice. She's evidently mellowed since she got married.

just like in mourning. In fact, it is mourning.

Divorce is the top stresser right after sudden death of a loved one.

You'll be okay. I know it.

You'll have good and bad days. It's going to take time to heal.

I think you have a lot of love and support here at DU. I know you do.

You just have to roll with it and remember that you are entitled to your feelings. ;)

50. hmm.. starting with 48 hours ago
-Thursday I had an early night and a solid night's sleep

-Friday I heard the voice of an angel

-I heard from my daughter and found out she is doing well

-I chatted with many old friends that I have not chatted with in 6-8 months

-I dreamed a vivid dream of me and my GF riding in a dining car of a train. We were going through the mountains sipping Zinfandel and eating omelets (analyze that!).

-I screwed up and smoked a cigarette. Just one... grr

-I helped find a cat and a dog a home.

-I saw the joy in a child's face when they get a new pet.

-I spent $60 at Suk-mart because they are the only ones in town that sells my nicotine gum.

-I got home and read DU

All is well! Wow! I should make lists like this more often. Its not so bad looking back now. :)

I may or may not have a beer and take a nap... the evening is up in the air.

:hi:

Heres how Ive decided to rationalize it...
If a sailor says he is going to swear off cursing, and he lasts a month doing just that but slips in a "son of a bitch piece of shit" on the 27th day he is not cussing like a sailor. He may have cussed like a sailor, but as long as he stops he can say he still doesn't swear.

Buy that? lol

I got headbutts and purrs from the kitties up for adoption at PetSmart (I volunteer for a local rescue group and clean their cages and play with them once a week). Our kitties are clamoring to sit with me and follow me everywhere.

I'm bored out of my mind because Mr. DTBK is currently on the other side of the world. You'd think a week alone would be a wonderful thing, but it's WRETCHED. Thank goodness I get to go to California on Wednesday to see Bullwinkle925 or I just might throw myself out of window!

64. Hubby played a song for me...
He heard it on the radio last night and thought of me... :)

"The Woman In My Life" -- Phil Vassar

She was there in the stands
Come rain or come shine
She was the lady that smiled all the time
I know times were hard, but she never let on
No, it wasn't easy
But she was so strong

And she believed in me
When I just gave up
She took all my worries
And she gave me love
She rocked me to sleep
With a sweet lullaby
I thank God for that woman in my life

So many bruises
And young broken hearts
And ill-fated arrows that all missed their marks
And I found a lover, like there's never been
She's my baby's mother
And she's my best friend

And she believes in me
When I just give up
She takes all my worries
And she gives me love
Yeah, she rocks me to sleep
With a sweet lullaby
I thank God for this woman in my life

Now she's two years old
And she's my biggest fan
And I'm wrapped 'round the finger
Of her little hand

And she believes in me
When I just give up
She takes all my worries
And she gives me love
Yeah, I rock her to sleep
With a sweet lullaby
I thank God for this woman in my life
Oh, I thank God for this woman in my...life

Actually, that's all I've been doing. :grr:

I'll have more time to clean out the closet, basement, etc.

98. all 17 of the rare-breed chicken eggs I've been incubating have hatched ...
It started yesterday, and the last stragglers were done this morning. This is the best hatch survival ratio I've ever had! The woman who'll be adopting the chicks is just thrilled, and in the meantime I have a couple of weeks to play with the birds and get them used to people. One of them already recognizes me -- likes being held, and even squeezed out between the bars of the brooder cage to go looking for me!

And yesterday I went to one of the local anti-poverty organizations in town. Several months ago I started working with them, on a project to provide advanced scientific and graphing calculators to kids whose families were unable to afford them. (I thought it was shameful that politicians talk a lot about education and ensuring kids are interested in science and technology, while there are high school students in our city who are actually dropping upper-level math classes because the specialized equipment costs as much as 2 weeks of groceries.)

Anyway, as the start of school in September is getting closer, I became concerned that I hadn't heard anything from the people at the organization. I really wanted to get some info on numbers and types of calculators needed, so I could start shopping around for multiple lots on eBay. I tried to explain to them that my income is fairly limited, so if I can get 60 calculators for the price of 50, it would be a big help to have enough time to work that deal out.

I was pleasantly surprised when people were really friendly and straightforward with me. NGOs often have a hard time keeping staff, because there is so much to do and people frequently burn out and lose patience -- but in this case they did have someone on it. It seemed that they had been collecting the information I needed, but the person who was in charge was on vacation and hadn't gotten around to contacting me yet. They have a lot of other stuff to do, but they did their best to get it together for me, so I wouldn't have to get back in touch later.

And they also promised to remove my name from the solicitation list and didn't get huffy about it -- I told them that I feel so guilty when pleas for more donations keep arriving, and I can't do anything about it. I don't mind not being thanked (in fact I asked them to take my name off the acknowledgements roll, because I didn't want the kids receiving the calculators to think that this was just "pity") -- but it really tears me up when the solicitations for stuff that I can't afford keep rolling in.

And you got companies to donate them? That's awesome!!

They cost $100.00? For one? I've seen them cheaper than that!

119. Wow, I live in the" nice stuff happens" bubble--
This morning was Saturday, so I didn't have to work--got to sleep--YAAAAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!

I got to be on Internets at my leisure this AM with nobody bugging me whie I drank my coffee (iced, with a scoop of protein shake)--

I visited my parents, and they are getting a new puppy soon, which is good because our Casey (A 15-yr old German shepard-mostly mutt, of incredible dignity and intelligence) passed recently, and they are beside themselves with need for new baby to love--

I had spare time for doing my nails and getting a facial, which makes me feel pretty--

I went with my parents to Target to print out the wedding registry list for my cousin's wedding, which is kind of important since the shower is next weekend--

Me and the wubboo had...quality time...and I ate some of my grapes from my yard--they were pretty good!

I have had good beer this PM and am posting on DU.

It's been all good.

122. went to a rummage sale
....and found a lovely mid-century modern birch cabinet that's just the ticket for the dining room, to hold serving pieces and linens. Best part -- $5.

Then I saw on craigslist a notice about a yard sale with 200 cookbooks. Rushed to it and got quite a few cool ones for a quarter apiece. And I bought the vintage tablecloth right off the table, too, for a buck. It's a good one from the '50s, with cherries and apples.

THAT, to me, is a very good day. I meant to go to the farmers' market for berries and cucumbers for pickles, but that will have to wait.
