Did you ever think you remembered something, then later found out it wasn't really a memory?
Maybe you dreamed it or thought about it so much you somehow convinced yourself it really happened?

I believed for years that I had actually seen my grandmother fall in the hall and die of a heart attack.
Some years ago, I realized that since I was only four when she died, and she died in the middle of the night, and I was afraid of the dark, in all probability I didn't really see her die.

1. I remember my great-gradfather visiting us at our home in Silver Spring.
I could see him in the kitchen drinking beer from his metal cup and eating Cheez Doodles.

One day I found his death certificate. He had died in 1964. I was only two years old then, and we hadn't moved to Silver Spring yet! I had heard so many stories about him that they became "memories."
