I just did something really bitchy
Preface: When these two women who are getting married were officers in the church, they INSISTED on all these rules about building usage. The office had to have a schedule of when ANYONE would be in the building. NOTHING was to leave the building without permission of the Trustees. They changed all the locks because they weren't sure who had keys. And on and on.

They made our organist's life a LIVING HELL!! They'd catch her PRACTICING in the building when she hadn't let anyone know she would be there. Once they overheard her say she had some music at home, they asked if it was church music. It was. They went BALLISTIC! The whole year they held office, I worried she'd quit. I would have, if I'd been treated that way.

So, just now, I'm in the office when I see that someone's going up the stairs to the sanctuary. I go up there, and one of 'em is walking down the aisle carrying a mike stand. I ask "Whatcha doin'?" Her: "We need this".
Me: "Do you have permission of the Trustees?"
"What?"
"Well, nothing can leave the building without the permission of the Trustees."
"It's us. And we'll bring it back tomorrow night."
"It's a rule. Some people felt very strongly about this rule, so I don't think we should make exceptions."
"Are you serious?"
"It's not my rule, and the current Trustees don't feel so strongly, but, well, I believe it was you who thought we should be more careful."

After I made her sweat for a few minutes, I did let her use it. But I would have been right, rule-wise, if I hadn't. And I was REAL tempted not to back down.

So, that was fun!

1. Nah, it would have been evil if you hadn't relented.
All you did was make them think, if only for a moment, of how their former controlling behavior was ridiculous.

2. Only for a moment...
then she'll go right back to the way she was.
Human beings...sigh.

5. I think you acted properly...
...pointing out hypocrisy and, by allowing the usage of the mike, "heaping some hot coals" on their heads at the same time.

Hopefully, their attitude will change...
