Soooo....Why did they kill Sonny, exactly? |
|
I'm watching the Godfather, yet again...I never can follow it well.
Why was Sonny gunned down?
I so wish he had been able to take out Carlo first.

1. He had been running the gang war while the Don was in the hospital |
|
He killed a lot of the Barzini/Tataglia soldiers and was impacting the income of all the Families.

4. I was at imdb for the cite: |
|
Tom Hagen: Sonny let's talk about this and get a meeting set up. Sonny: No! No no more meetings no more Solozzo tricks. You sending a message to Tattaglia? Say "I want Sollozzo" if not it's all out war and we go to the mattresses. Tom Hagen: Sonny the other families won't stand for that! Sonny: Well than business is gonna have to suffer.

I have a semi-short attention span with these films. D'oh, Michael's Italian wife just got snuffed!
Thanks again! :hi:

6. Did you know that oranges are symbols of death? |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 08:02 PM by Richardo
Look at the board room table - each Don (who Michael kills during the Baptism scene) has a bowl with oranges in front of him. And of course Corleone was at an orange stand when he was shot...

|

14. This has got to be one of the most badly acted movies in the history of cinema |
|
I keep watching it and every time it just gets funnier and funnier because the acting is so transparent -
The pregnant pauses, the "meaningful looks", the "symbolism" - It's all so fraught with "meaning".

15. He wouldn't be able to take out Carlo first because (spoiler, I suppose) |
|
Carlo was in on the hit on Sonny ... his second assault on Connie was designed to draw Sonny to the causeway to be slaughtered.

Barzini used Carlo to set Sonny up so the Tattaglias would be blamed.

24. Exactly. Sonny ordered the hit in retaliation for the "hospital thing", |
|
right after which Captain McCluskey breaks Michael's jaw.

back into power. Sonny was waging a war so devastating that even Tom Hagan was trying to convince him to make truces.
