Hi, Selig's reaction was classic. I couldn't tell if he was looking for a hotdog vendor or just witnessed Bonds tying the home run record, too funny.
Peace

They just mentioned it during the Mariners radio broadcast.
That reaction does sound hilarious. Can't wait to see it.

5. Considering that Bonds is a filthy cheater... |
|
no, he did not. He is a filthy cheater who cheated his filthy way to Hammerin' Hank's record.

But then cheating (chemically or otherwise) is hardly a new thing in baseball. http://www.amazon.com/Cheaters-Guide-Baseball-Derek-Zumsteg/dp/0618551131Written by a friend of mine. Highly recommended. It's a good book.

10. You better throw out a whole lot more people than Bonds then |
|
Look, I'm not defending the guy. I think he's a huge cheater, but I just don't see how it's feasible to start picking and choosing what performances we're gonna throw out and keep.
Do Palmeiro's numbers get to stay? McGwire's? Sosa's?
Should we throw the record book out starting in 1985? What about all the players in the 60's who were ramped on uppers during games?
I guess people can acknowledge whatever records they want, but it seems messy and inefficient to play this game.
Maybe I'm just weird, because I'm a baseball fan who really doesn't care about the record book.

we should throw out Mickey Mantle's World Series records because he had this nasty habit of hitting home runs while hung over from boozing the night away with Martin and Ford, or hitting home runs with one hand.
On another note, I don't care that much for record books either. When Sosa and McGwire got themselves juiced up enough to pass Ruth and Maris in the single-season home run record book, it didn't erase anything about Ruth and Maris for me - it just provided an entertaining lift for baseball after that disastrous player's strike. It was vaguely reminiscent of the Maris/Mantle race in 1961.

Bonds has "caught" no one.
He's contributed to the decline of a once-great IDEA, and he's done it more than many others who chose the same path.
THAT'S what he's done.

Who gives a flying f*ck about Bonds? I'm sure if Hank Aaron was on the juice, he would have hit a lot more.
Bonds is a phony -- there should be an asterisk next to his name.

Alex Rodriguez just became the youngest player to reach 500 home runs.
Forget Bonds and his Balco boys. In 6 years or so, Rodriguez may be the next legitimate home run king.

We can only pray A.Rod will be injury free and take the record back for the good of baseball.
Bonds holding it is just embarrassing.

|
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 12:27 AM by Tinman
Two greats that had milestone days. It's also worth noting that A-Rod is only 32 years old and stands only 255 homers behind Barry. At the pace he's been knocking them out, Barry's days as the all-time home run king may be short.

With or without roids, Barry is still the greatest player of this era of baseball, and easily top 3 all time.

30. Wow, a serious Bonds fanboy |
|
Amazing. Which Bonds do you prefer, the "all natural" Bonds of his youth, when he was a not so special power hitter, or the "chemically enhanced" Bonds whose second half of his career "mysteriously" defied nature while the man blew up big as a house.
Sorry, but the real pre-'roids Barry was nothing special, and frankly most people can't work up your kind of adulation for the chemically enhanced model. Most people don't consider a player "great" if they're shooting up steroids.
Barry will not be remembered as one of the greatest players of all time. He will be remembered as a man who cheated and was an asshole to boot.

32. I just take exception to one thing you said... |
|
I'm no Bonds fan, thanks to the steroid aura that hangs over his head, but...
To say "the real pre-'roids Barry was nothing special" just ain't true.
Back then, Bonds was an all-around great player. Before the 'roids scandal, he was one of the best all-around players of his era - fast on the bases, a great left fielder both with his speed and his glove, and an incredible throwing arm, and a regular .300+ hitter who was feared by every pitcher in the National League. He still hit home runs. He just didn't hit 73 in a season. He routinely hit in the 30's to 40's range, which is phenomenal for any player.
I wish he'd stay that way. He had a lifetime ticket to the Hall of Fame. Instead of what awaits for him - an eternal ticket to the Hall of Shame.
