5. Been there done that
The one I did that with was barely connected as it was though, owing to regrowing from an ingrown toenail operation. When it came off I was in aikido practice, and it popped off because of working out on the mat.

10. One thing I learned: antifungal cream, every day!
Rub it into the skin under the toenail. If it gets a fungus infection the nail gets really thick and weird.

6. Really sucks, doesn't it?
If it was a fingernail, it would be good as new in two months...

But toenails grow soooo much slower. Bastards!

I lost one 18 months ago; it's just barely looking as good as its
brother on the other foot. If I asked folks to guess which one I
had damaged most recently, I'll bet two thirds would still be able
to guess correctly.

21. How do you lose the nail on your big toe "multiple times"?
I get alot of scraped knees because I fall down alot, but losing your big toe's toenail? How do you do it and how excruciating is it (from 1 to 10).

22. It's usually more annoying than painful. It all started with a wrestling/grappling toe injury
a couple of years ago. I bent my big toe the wrong way on the mat, and it hurt a little, but I kept wrestling until the round ended. I then remembered that I had bent my toe, looked down, and saw that my toe was a bloody mess! The skin was ripped up pretty badly and the cuticle was separated from the nail. The nail was pretty loose, and I knew it would probably come off eventually. I ended up getting 3 stitches in the toe and did have a fracture. Ever since then, the toenail has been growing in in a peculiar way and I sometimes have sort of a double-nail situation going on. Last time the nail go loose was when I was grappling and wasn't wearing socks. I decided to start wearing socks again when I grapple!

I feel for you. I really do. By the time you read this your toe is going to be throbbing like hell and just the feel of a summer breeze on it is going to bring you new experiences in pain. Next time you move furniture around I hope you remember this and go put some shoes on!!!

((naggy nag that I am))
