The experience has generally been much less enjoyable than
books, TV, and Motion Pictures would have me believe.

TONIGHT was totally entertaining, but in ways I've never seen before
and honestly never expect to see again in this lifetime.

29. OK, here's a brief synopsis:

I'm sitting drinking beer & watching 10 people
with much more education than I playing volleyball
on a backyard court half as deep as it is wide....

The ball knocks over an oil-wicked TikiTorch; although
the torch is quickly returned to an upright position, the
oil has leaked and the woven-bamboo torch itself is aflame.

Almost immediately, the entire party begins to form a ring around
the torch. Within two minutes, everyone is in a tight circle
repeating the phrase, "It's on fire".

At about the 3-minute mark, one brave soul steps foreward from
the crowd and kicks the torch over...onto a shaded patch of ground
covered in a thick layer of dry leaves.

(At this point, I realized that this was gonna be funny for a while
longer, so I got up and fetched another beer, and returned to my seat.)

And I grabbed that beer just in time, because the next person
with 100 thousand dollars worth of schooling who wanted to play
HERO decided that he would extinguish an oil-soaked pile of dry
leaves by dumping an Igloo-cooler full of ice cubes on the pile.

Who would have ever guessed that the whole "oil and water don't mix"
thing is just as true when the water is in frozen cube form and
the oil is ON FIRE?"

Here's a phrase that doesn't get used much these days: "Hilarity ensued"
