I need a computer guru
I have DSL and two computers and I need to find this thing. I'm using a D-Link 2.4GHz Wireless broadband router but my connection is always low and my other computer is running slow.

D-Link DWL-AG520 802.11g Wireless G PCI Adapt

Anyone know where I can buy this? I tried a search on BestBuys - no dice. Any help will be much appreciated.

:hi:

I don't know s*it about computers. My son just told me to go out and buy this and he'll connect it. He lives 2 hours away so If I get it and have it here I stand a better chance of getting it connected. He lives in a rural area so... Thanks again.

9. Why?
Do you want a triband adapter? The antenna does look nice, but there are tons of after market antennas.

What router are you using and what kind of distance are we talking? How many walls etc?

14. What is your router model?
Three walls is considered "a working limit" (low in my experience) but 20 feet is nothing much. Anything weird about the walls (metal, brick)?

http://osiris.urbanna.net/antenna_designs/projects/Ez-10/

Describes reflectors that can make a considerable improvement in signal strength and particularly help with interference. I use an open box design based on the above link for adapters with an internal antenna.

You can PM me if you want. There are lots of possible issues including band and channel selection that you should check out before spending more money.

15. I'm sending all this info to my son who now says..
Mom..go back to sleep I'll handle it, LOL. This kid has made my computer so idiot friendly even Barney the 'First Dog' could use it.

But, to answer your question I'm using a D-Link 2.4GHz Wireless broadband router.

18. Ok.
I was looking more for a model# like DI-624. Just make sure that the antennas have minimum stuff between them. With adapters that fit into the computer some folks put the computer case between the adapter antenna and the router one. You don't want to do this.

20. Yes, I did that .
The router is on a table with nothing around it and as close to the door opening as possible.

21. And the second computer adapter?
Sometimes moving a few feet (or even inches) can make a big difference. (It takes a few seconds to see the effects on signal strength.) If you can, move the adapter and the router one at a time (don't move a computer while it is running) and see the effects. Also be sure both antennas are pointing straight up, generally omnis work best this way. Being at the same height can make a difference too.

2.4Ghz phones can be real signal killers. Do not debug a connection when using one.

10. Try Pricewatch or PriceGrabber or DealTime
Go to http://www.pricewatch.com/ and enter D-Link DWL-AG520 in the search box. You'd get a bunch of listings from various vendors.

Or try PriceGrabber at http://www.pricegrabber.com or DealTime at http://www.dealtime.com .

They all have the item at prices ranging between $60 and $70. Find the best price (including shipping) from a well-rated seller and go with it.
