I say we organize a major East Coast Protest/Halloween Party - Oct 27th
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3733

They said there will be 8 major cities so I'm assuming that DC and/or NYC will be one of them. I'm up for a major Halloween Party with a bunch of great DUers plus join in for a massive protest to boot.

Whatcha all think?

4. You wouldn't come to NYC?

I would prefer having it there. But it's wherever UPJ has their protest at this year in October.

9. I would so have to agree - it wasn't one of the better ones
But the last couple of ones have been great; however, DC tends to be better. Hawk & Dove gives us a great place for a party

12. The protest or the DU party?
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 03:54 PM by LynneSin
The protest horribly sucked. But that's because International Answer was involved and they tend to bring every tom, dick & harry anti-bush special interest group and give them 15minutes on the mike. Now mind you, I'm 110% on board with the Free Haiti organization, the Union of Gay Dockworkers and the free some unknown person in jail for something that has nothing really to do with the Bush Administration or the war (mind you none of these are actually groups but you get the hint), but seriously, we didn't drive (or fly) all the way to DC to see these people speak. They had some great speakers to start off with including Jesse Jackson, Cindy Sheehan, Ramsey Clark and I believe Charles Rangel, but then it went downhill when IA decided to hold up the protest to get all their special interest groups time in front of the C-Span camera.

I have not been to an IA protest since and even United for Peace & Justice has stop organizing protests with them. That protest was to start after about 60-90 minutes of speakers and yet we were stuck there for almost 3 hours and then it was one giant size clusterfuck because of IA's interfere. UPJ even posted a letter the next week apologizing about all the delays and breaking their ties with IA. I've been to about 3-4 protests since that last one and I can say they are much more organized than before PLUS the speaking time is much more limited.

13. Well, the protest was the suck, but the party was worse, for me.
Due to two unfortunate circumstances...One I won't mention here, as the DUers involved have been banned since. The other, dear Lynne, was you introducing me to everyone, including *Skinner*, as "Sniffa's mistress"....I mean, wtf?

But I did get to drink a lot of your beer in revenge

I did meet many lovely people there, regardless...

And yeah, the protest was damn awful. x(

15. Well first and formost I do apologize
and secondly, yes many of those people are now banned. I swore I was never doing another DU gathering since. But recent ones have all been uphill.

17. I pm'd this but I'll say it here too
One shouldn't have to wait for an apologize by posting that they were hurt. I should have done that ages ago. You're an absolutely sweetheart and I'm glad things worked out for you the way you did!

3. Will you have a new house/condo by then?
Will it be large enough to accommodate the entire Lounge?

5. I hope so - I hate renting
I found 4 places yesterday. The best one was in a great neighborhood with a nice yard and safe location plus awesome price. Only one downfall - my backyard overlooks a graveyard

7. I looked at a condo that had that kind of view.
Needless to say, that isn't the one I bought.

Good luck.

22. I've decided to not go with the graveyard place
anyhow, 2 of those places are in major family neighborhoods where I'll be surrounded by kids.

The other 2 places are within walking distance of some great pubs & museums so I won't feel so overly surrounded by kids.

The one place I love the best has a major downfall - the only bathroom is available by going through the one bedroom. I'm trying to figure out how to work that one out. I do think there was a toilet down in the basement but to walk through it you have to walk hunched over (well I do - I'm 5'10)

19. Halloween my Favorite Day
I'm near DC and I'd totally wanna go if I could get a ride but I can't let the little ghouls down, I've been decorating and giving out big candy for so long.
Anyway every party I've ever thrown bombed pretty bad or I'd say for people to come stay here, so we could give out the candy then burn little effigies in the driveway }(

I hope something happens anyway, somewhere!
