RIP Lee Hazlewood ("These Boots Are Made for Walkin'")
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 09:48 PM by Bluebear
Kiss all the pretty ones goodbye
Give everyone a penny that cry
You can throw all my tranquil' pills away
Let my blood pressure go on its way
For my autumn's done come
My autumn's done come.

Lee Hazlewood, My Autumn's Done Come

The man who gave us the song ''These Boots Are Made For Walkin''' has died.

Singer-songwriter Lee Hazlewood died of kidney cancer at his home outside Las Vegas on Saturday evening, according to the Clark County coroner's office. He was 78.

Hazelwood wrote and produced ''Boots'' for Nancy Sinatra. He also wrote ''Sugartown'' and ''Some Velvet Morning'' for Sinatra, and he produced the song ''Something Stupid'' for Sinatra and her father, Frank, in 1967.

Hazlewood made three ''Nancy and Lee'' albums with Sinatra, as well as a number of solo albums. His final album, ''Cake or Death,'' came out in 2006.

He also produced albums for Duane Eddy and Gram Parsons.

1. This news made me sad.
I have a rather large Hazlewood collection. He was truly a brilliant eccentric. He wrote so many great and bizarre songs.

2. "Some Velvet Morning'
That has got to be one of the weirdest songs ever written.

Great tune though! :-)

Lee:
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when I'm straight

Nancy:
Flowers growing on the hill
Dragonflies and daffodils
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

Lee:
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when I'm straight

Nancy:
Flowers are the things we knew
Secrets are the things we grew
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

Lee:
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
Nancy:
Flowers growing on the hill
Lee:
I'm gonna open up your gate
Nancy:
Dragonflies and daffodils
Lee:
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
Nancy:
Learn from us very much
Lee:
And how she gave me life
Nancy:
Look at us but do not touch
Lee:
and how she made it in

3. Whoa
...I was just talking about him a half hour ago.

I was telling Mr Bjornsdotter about this album...

" alt="Lee Hazlewood - Cowboy in Sweden"

....my parents used to play it a lot. Worst album ever....if I ever hear "Hej Cowboy" again something is going to die.

I am sorry he died though.

Cheers

4. That was the first Lee record I picked up...
...and I love it! Not for all tastes, of course. But how can you hear "Vem Kam Segla" (or whatever it's called) and not weep copious buckets?

Hey, cowboy, where'd you get that horse?

Hey, cowboy?

From the man, of course!

7. I've got his last CD
Played it on my show often; one of my best friend's favorite songs is "Some Velvet Morning" (which Vanilla Fudge covered, awesomely). Lee was one of a kind, and a true innovator.
