I'm not a lawyer but I finished writing a legal brief tonight
and I mailed it.

My ex-company fought my unemployment compensation and they won. As it stands, I have 2.5 months to pay back. I lived on nothing for 2 months till I got a job.

Finally the time came when I could do something, so I got all the materials and a lawyer to supervise.

It was emotionally grueling listening to the 2 hour hearing, and all the lying. It was fulfilling to do this part of fighting back myself. It will probably be a while longer before I know anything as there are more steps, but this was the biggest step.

5. Kick their asses!
So many corporations lie as a matter of routine policy. x(

I'd love to see rules for corporate ethics that somehow have teeth in them. I'd love to see some of the most abusive corporations loose their charters.

I know it's wishful thinking, but I really think corporations are far too powerful and unregulated.

7. It goes back much farther than that.
Lincoln was already warning about the power of corporations almost 150 years ago. :(

And I believe that was even before they became legal persons and gained even more rights than any real person can every hope to have. x(

9. They are totally corrupt and they lie, lie, lie
But it took a really biased, insensitive judge to hand it to them too.

8. NOLO is a great resource. Helped me kick DirecTV's ass for my M.I.L.
When the installation guy just tore the crap out of her brand new house. I bought a book they had on going pro bono and it made me feel better, gave me confidence.

Oh yes, they paid.

11. Nolo is awesome.
I used their property management book tons when I was doing that for a living. The company had a good lawyer too, but that way I could answer my own questions for basic stuff and only bother him for nitpicky specialty issues, which saved time and money.

Their forms (applications, walk-throughs, etc.) tended to be better than his or the ones I could get through the industry group my employer belonged to as well.
