I just got my first tattoo: a "V" for Vendetta!
I'll be 55 next week and I gave it to myself for a birthday present. I figured what the hell since I've thought about it for 6 months. I wanted something that had meaning for me and since V for Vendetta is one of my all time favorite movies it was an easy choice. It is the red "V" logo with the red circle around it with the word "FREEDOM" in black above it and "FOREVER" below it.
It is on my upper right arm and the V is about the size of a baseball.

Personally, it did not hurt me really at all--very mild. It took about an hour to do being pretty simple and straightforward and even now, less than a half hour later there is no more discomfort that a little sunburn. I already have a plan for my left upper arm--something special from The Lord of the Rings I have yet to work out.

6. It's the next morning and it really does not hurt at all.
It is not small, being at least 4" long, but I did have it on my upper arm which is said not to be very painful. But then, pain is subjective. Anybody who has seen the movie would instantly recognize the red V within the red circle (with a little blood dripping).

2. Remember, remember, the fifth of... oh hey, that's my birthday. :)
I was planing on getting the elvish from the One Ring written around a design I wanted on my back. Unfortunately, tattoos cost money. Money that I don't have.

5. Tolkien thought that was a bad idea,
that he was given a silver cup once with that inscription and only used it for ashes because the inscription was of the evil tongue of Mordor.

My next one will be of the white tree of Gondor with an appropriate elvish script to go with it.

9. I'd be okay having evil script around this tattoo
it's rather bad-ass looking. :) I've got some pictures of what it will look like here

and I was going to have each line of the black speech of mordor replace the hard-to-see latin around the design. The size I'd go for would probably be somewhere between the first and last pic, maybe about 2/3 of my back or so.

7. Thanks.
I am trying to set myself free from old, anal and outdated attitudes that are self limiting and needlessly restrictive. It could be a mid life crisis, but I doubt if I'll live to be 110, although I did have a grand uncle who lived to be 102.

Congrats on the tat and I like the description. Any chance of pix?
