so...I have a job offer.
It's not the job I wanted (still waiting to hear on the one I REALLY want), and pay is a bit lower than I wanted, but thank god I have an offer. I'll probably take it if the other company doesn't bite...but I'm kinda scared. And I'm not sure I can juggle another 2 weeks of Starbucks while starting a new job...but if I have to do it, I have to do it.

Did anyone feel weird/scared about going to their first "real" job? I just feel awkward.

1. Almost everyone feels weird starting their first real job.
but we all get over it too. :)

I hope you get the offer you want. But whichever job you take, I hope you enjoy it.

3. I assume that your job will not be nuclear engineering.
:)

If she hired you, then she feels you are capable of doing the job. It's rare for an employer to hire someone who they are even slightly doubtful about. It's far more common for them to hire someone because you're smarter or better qualified than the job requires. They know you can do it with very little effort.

We all know you're smart too. You can definitely do it.

9. I'm about in the same place you are
I know what it's like. I've managed to live my whole life up until now without having to learn how to tie a tie... I've worn a tuxedo plenty of times, but the few times I had to wear a regular button-down shirt and tie, I always had someone to tie it for me. At least I did, up until my first 'real job' interview last month.
It's a good thing I practiced it first, otherwise I would have been late to the interview because of tie issues... :)

10. You'll feel wierd/scared about going to EVERY new job
I'm going back this morning after a few days off after 3 days into the new job. I'll be "learning" for the next month or so at least.

You'll do great. If they are willing to train, they are making an investment in you just as you are in them. You'll get it. And you will learn that you always will.

Good luck!

12. Congrats WindRaven!
Yeah, I agree with other posters - you'll always feel weird taking a new job, but especially so for your first real one. There's a sense of finality to the whole thing. I mean, this isn't JUST to pay for bills and stuff anymore - this is the start of your CAREER. That's a huge thing.

But it's also a very pleasant thing. It's the start (or at least the official start) to a very lengthy journey for you. Best of luck to you as you embark.

14. Oh yay!
New jobs are always scary.
Just fight to get good training. Find someone who knows what they're doing and befriend them. :)

15. New things of any sort always feel that way
It wears off. In fact, it often wears off too quickly - I find within a week or so, I feel like I've been there forever and depending on the job, that can be depressing as hell!

You'll be fine. Congrats.
