ABC's "The Bachelor" - why are all the bachelors (& bachelorettes) white |
|
My mother loves that show. I was looking at the people casted on this show and every single one of them are white.
Did anyone else notice that?

1. There have been a few prospective mates (i.e. 1 of 25 bachelors or bachelorettes) |
|
that have been non-caucasian, but yeah, none of the main contestants. I'd like to believe that maybe they have more self-respect than that, but I'm sure it's just racisim on the part of the producers.

2. ABC knows Black people are not so desperate for entertainment... |
|
...that they would watch that show.
Just a guess. Maybe all the recruiting is done in Vermont.

3. Because a black single person is just a whore or a playa, silly. |
|
Jeez, don't you keep up with the Republican's constant swirling redefinitions of social dynamics and obfuscatory verbal gymnastics?
If we had black people on a dating show, our children - our good, Christian American white children - would be doing crack and shooting each other on street corners after murdering their parents and pooping on the cross.

4. because they don't want any interracial pairings |
|
because when people are looking for true love on a reality show it's important that they don't have to compromise themselves and interact with someone of another race :eyes:

|
But they usually get kicked off pretty quick. :eyes:

Who would want to marry them any way? Maybe that's why they're bachelors (& bacherlorettes)

8. Demographics. These shows have to go over well with the couch-potato trailer-dwellers |
|
in East Bunghole, Alabama. So...can't have interracial pairings.

9. Screw interracial pairing - why not have a season feature predominately minorites |
|
They think all minorities act like they should be on "Flavor of Love"? Hell the the white gals on "Rock of Love" are just as trashy if not worse.

11. other dating shows do that |
|
and I find it just as offensive. So while they don't do the whole season, they have separate episodes where they have all black people. So all the black people who interview for the show get segregated to a separate episode so they don't have to risk an interracial pairing.

10. maybe to avoid "reverse discrimination" pressure? |
|
Maybe they don't want Bachelor Bob to feel he can't send the non-white girl home because of fears of being called "racist" so they avoid the situation?
Or maybe nobody wants to be branded "racist" if Bachelor Bob decides to send the non-white contestant(s) home early.
Might also be that they ask Bachelor Bob ahead of time if he is comfortable with interracial dating? If he says he isn't, then the pool of Bachelorettes reflects that preference?

13. I remember watching a few episodes a few years ago |
|
Some guy that was the bachelor whose family owned some banks in the midwest, and he was also a former college football quarterback and also played the piano.
He was white... (or is, I should say)
but, there were several non-white bachelorettes, if I recall. I remember the Chinese girl giving him a bit of a hard time, but he gave her a rose, anyhow, and she made it to the 2nd week at least. I remember the Chinese woman because I had recently gotten married to a Chinese woman.
I think I stopped watching after that.
I think the recent winner on their "Officer & A Gentleman" may have been mixed Asian & White?

15. It's more about the racism of the viewer than the network. |
|
There's a lot more white people in this country than black people. White people like to watch white people. This isn't just an assumption. Networks have reams of marketing research proving the point. So, I wouldn't say the networks are intrinsically racist. I would say that people are racist, and networks want to reach as many people as possible.

|
personally I think 'flavor of love' was the show of shows when it comes to that sort of thing, lol.
And what was the one on Bravo where they had a gay man pick a mate...well they screwed that one up by having some of the guys be straight, though.
