1. Alton Brown is my idol
whenever I cook, I think "What would Alton do?"

Have you seen Feasting on Asphalt 2 yet?

And I agree, Bobby Flay is an overrated little $%@#$%

2. I'll tell him hi the next time I see him - easy to do in the ATL
He lives here and shops locally. I've seen him out at Whole Foods and a local Publix.

I love his shows and he's a super nice guy. I'm genuinely happy for him for all his success.

4. you lucky! Id give my right arm to meet him.
I was so disappointed when he came through St Louis to film Feasting on Asphalt, only to find out he got to Ted Drewe's not an hour after I left.

16. It's because of Alton Brown, more than any other Food Network personality
that I've grown a fondness for cooking.

6. I've only made...
Alton's stovetop mac and cheese.

It's fantastic. Although the first three or four times I made it, the cheese sauce kept getting grainy until I realized it was because the stove was too hot, so the fifth time, the cheese sauce came out perfectly, but I'd used unbeknownst-to-me bad eggs, so I got sick. I haven't made it in a while...

I hate Bobby Flay too. But Alton is my culinary idol.

9. And the recipe is....
I like that it has lots of veggies and the sauce has a great zing to it. I think if I saw Alton in public I'd probably become incoherent and start to drool.

Good Eats Meat Loaf
Recipe courtesy of Alton Brown
See this recipe on air Thursday Aug. 09 at 11:00 PM ET/PT.
Show: Good Eats
Episode: Daily Grind
6 ounces garlic-flavored croutons
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 onion, roughly chopped
1 carrot, peeled and broken
3 whole cloves garlic
1/2 red bell pepper
18 ounces ground chuck
18 ounces ground sirloin
1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 egg

For the glaze:
1/2 cup catsup
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Dash Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot pepper sauce
1 tablespoon honey

Heat oven to 325 degrees F.

In a food processor bowl, combine croutons, black pepper, cayenne pepper, chili powder, and thyme. Pulse until the mixture is of a fine texture. Place this mixture into a large bowl. Combine the onion, carrot, garlic, and red pepper in the food processor bowl. Pulse until the mixture is finely chopped, but not pureed. Combine the vegetable mixture, ground sirloin, and ground chuck with the bread crumb mixture. Season the meat mixture with the kosher salt. Add the egg and combine thoroughly, but avoid squeezing the meat.

Pack this mixture into a 10-inch loaf pan to mold the shape of the meatloaf. Onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, turn the meatloaf out of the pan onto the center of the tray. Insert a temperature probe at a 45 degree angle into the top of the meatloaf. Avoid touching the bottom of the tray with the probe. Set the probe for 155 degrees.

Combine the catsup, cumin, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce and honey. Brush the glaze onto the meatloaf after it has been cooking for about 10 minutes.

10. I think that the Cooks Illustrated
or America's Kitchen meatload recipe is better.

Have you tried their NY Cheesecake recipe, to die for, & I think that I have mastered that recipe!!

12. I've never tried theirs but I love the show
Do you subscribe to the magazine? I think you have to be a subscriber to get access to all their recipes online :( Even though I know that it's perfectly fair to charge for online content my cheap ass self still gets all sad that the entire internet isn't free.

15. Why do you hate Bobby Flay?
One of my coworkers happened to be seated next to him on a flight from Las Vegas to NYC and said he was one of the nicest people she has ever flown with, they talked most of the flight and he invited her and her fiance to dinner at one of his restaurants.

18. He seems like a smug prick
he may very well be a great guy, I don't know, but I don't like what I've seen of him on Food Network. I prefer the style of Alton Brown or Christopher. Something about Flay just rubs me the wrong way, can't really explain
