The BlueIris Semi-Nightly Poem Thread, 8/7/07 |
|
Well, it's still 8/7 where I am. Kinda.
"Grass"
Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo. Shovel them under and let me work— I am the grass; I cover all.
And pile them high at Gettysburg And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun. Shovel them under and let me work. Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conducter: What place is this? Where are we now?
I am the grass. Let me work.

1. I'm sure people will get to this when they get to it, but...typo... |
|
here's a repost sans typo:

It's been hard for me that my poem selections are not wildly popular, but as people have told me since I began this little project--poetry has never been the Lounge's #1 favorite thing.

5. I know. And this is more a personal thing than a public thing, anyway, |
|
as I realized while compiling the poems I want to use for August, September and October--there are a lot of really great poems out there that I'm probably one of the only people to recognize. Well, aside from the poets who wrote them, of course. I'd never made an effort to compile any of them, let alone share that compilation with an audience. So, here is my chance. Many of these pieces are poems that changed my perspective, and that spoke to me in a deeply personal way. Poems I've taken to my soul. So the semi-nightly threads are, in essence, BlueIris, as understood through poetry.
Thanks for your readership and support.

7. I haven't read much Sandburg in years. |
|
Not as much emotional impact as some poets, but a lot to think about.
