1. Didn't the Yankees also surge a lot closer in June? |
|
Only to go on a losing streak & sink back down?
If they can cut it to 2 or 2.5 by the end of the month, then I'd say it is a pennant race.
I'm a Yankees fan, too.

2. Yankees never got it under 7 in June |
|
This is the closest they've been since the disastrous April series in Fenway.

But if they make up a 14.5 game deficit - a feat never yet accomplished in the history of baseball (much like making up a 3 game deficit in the playoffs circa 2004), then we may just have a new king of choke, or rather, a Restoration of the True Kings of Choke...
;-)
With about 45 games left, it's unlikely, but I would love nothing more than to watch the thoroughly obnoxious Nation have to fucking eat it. It would be hilarious. And I'm the last person in the world to be a Yankee booster, as a Met fan, but there's nothing worse than a piddling, resentful Red Sox fan still pretending that they're "rooting for the underdog." You want underdogs, Nation? Try Tampa Bay...

8. It is, of course, highly unlikely |

Did you read the part where I'm NOT a Yankee fan.
But the Red Sox fans are such clowns that it would be wonderful. In any case, the Sox have the best record in baseball, and the best team in baseball, so I'm kinda rooting for the underdog, as all the red Sox Nation constantly pretends to be doing...:-)

10. The Yankees have a tough schedule in August. But it eases up in September. |
|
The Yankees play Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Baltimore a total of eighteen times. They have seven left against Detroit (three on the road), three on the road against Cleveland, three agianst Anaheim and six left with The Red Sox.
Boston plays Tampa Bay and Baltimore twenty two times. Of the contenders, they have four games against Anaheim (at home) and four against Minnesota.
The schedule favors Boston.
