3. Do we have any sense of what the challenge is about? |
|
I guess my thought is that any chef can perform well on any given day, and that any chef can perform poorly on any given day... so I can't predict what will happen without some sense of what the challenge will be.
I'm still hoping Hung gets the ax sooner rather than later.

it appears that they have to cook instead, in their clubbing clothes, possibly for late night partiers. Looks like they have too cook in a trailer of some kind.

28. The women are really weak this season. |
|
The Saras seem to be the weakest and Casey hasn't really shined either.
Of the rest, I think the tall guy (Dale?), Howie, and Tre have real talent. Brian Malarkey seems boring.
I think Hung probably has the most potential. He's cute in a Burn Gorman sort of way, but is really limiting himself by being so defensive about his food. His attitude is a combination of Elia's elitism, Ilan's smugness, and Marcel's lack of social awareness.

I think as an executive chef, Howie would have the right attitude. I think the others write him off right away as someone who won't work with them and they start out being defensive.

That goes for any "leader".
I was thinking tonight that if Howie would have offered a bit of an apology, then he would have gained some points. But he stuck to his guns and looked like a moran. But I think it is easier to adjust the warmth than to adjust the heat. If that makes sense.

Which is why I see him getting burned soon in the future, due to his attitude problem. Esp. in team challenges, he is apparently unable to allow others to take the reigns. No flexibility. Hm.

That being said CJ got himself the lead position on this and that means that he basically tried to keep Howie from blowing up and the whole team disintegrating. He really should have set Howie aside and let him take care of one task (make it a big one though) and then he and the rest of the team could run things. It would have been smoother.
What's funny is that they other woman (the one who bears a striking resemblance to Jennifer Anniston -to CJ's Tom Wait features) said that she was the "Expeditor" but they never got back to how THAT seemed to be the main problem in their roach coach.

67. I have to defer to the great Anthony Bourdain regarding the cauliflower choice: |
|
"Speaking of oblivious: If, in spite of your superb technical skills, excellent training and fine, creative mind, you are consistently ending up on the bottom of the dog pile -- and you are presented with an easy lay-up of a Quickfire Challenge, why, why, WHY would you choose to step forward and proudly push your head -- once again -- into the meat grinder?
Lab rats and domestic pets, after sticking an appendage into a light socket, usually refrain from doing so again. Yet Hung, week after week, after taking a full dose of house current, jams his nether regions directly into the fuse box. How hard was it to win this challenge?
Dale won with the very sensible -- but hardly genre-bending -- peach cobbler ice cream. Had Hung stuck to sweet stuff and stayed away from CAULIFLOWER(?!!), I have a hard time believing he couldn't have, at very least, avoided being the very worst. Who EVER finds themselves yearning suddenly for cauliflower in their ice cream sundae? Who has ever -- in recorded history -- thought to themselves: "Gee...this ice cream would be so much better if only there were tempura flakes on it"? Or yearned, while spooning vanilla ice cream into their face, for FOAM?"

I thought Casey's ice cream was out there also, but it seems she knew she was stretching it and just wanted to see if it worked.
Hung just can't accept that something he creates is horrible, and it's more comforting to think the judges just didn't get it or they were looking for something else. . .
Lets all be thankful Howie didn't do Pork Ice Cream.
