"O That Summer"

my sister and I both wound up back in Coos Bay
basket cases, lonely as hell.
She was recovering from drugs, alcohol,
I was newly divorced, a Sunday School teacher
with no job skills, praying
for a maid job at Best Western.
Lord, how we prayed

walking from one end
of Sunset Beach to the other, barefoot,
freezing in tanktops, cut-offs, hair and make-up
perfect, fingernails glossed with three coats of
Wet n' Wild,
hoping
some good looking single doctor
was walking his dog nearby,
should one of us happen
to cut our foot open on beach glass

and makes me feel old. "Wet n Wild" I remember that...I bought tons of that stuff in my late teens and early twenties, in the most awesome, garish shades they had, royal blue, chartreuse, lol.

this is fitting coming after that Sandburg yesterday, some poems can be so simple and yet have so much impact. :hug:

"Freezing in tanktops" Oh, God I remember those days. You're afraid to ask yourself--Am I cute enough? Are my boobs big enough? Does my ass look big? Will the "right" man save me? 'Cause you're so fucking lost. Alone in a crowd. Angst, all that bullshit.

I'd never go back to that shit, ever. Many years ago it was.


Never wanted a doctor though, always went for drug dealers with street cred. Now I work with doctors, and I still wouldn't want one. Different reasons though, thank goodness.
