2. Still the only children's series
to feature jazz.

So very cool, even today. And the Charlie Brown Christmas CD is my fav holiday CD. :-)

4. I saw him play once....
he opened for Van Morrison in maybe 1971 at the old Alhambra threatere in Sacramento at a benefit to save the theater.

I was maybe 16 and that WAS WAY NOT the kind of music I was into at the time. He started with the Linus and Lucy thing and then just took it from there. His band was top notch, stand-up bass and a drummer with a snare. Totally blew my mind. One of the more eye opening moments of my life from a music laearning aspect.

5. Of course we lost that theater......
http://cinematreasures.org/theater/1442/

Now it is a SAFEWAY! I freaking hate that store and refuse to go there. the only people that wre into saving anything back then were hippies, nobody else seemed to care. We did lotsof benefit shows there and still NOTHING. One of the great stand alone theaters on nice property on the west Coast and it is a Safeway...

I wonder had we saved this theater, mybe we would still be having some type of music culture in Sacramento instead of karaoke and Cover bands. And derivative sounding bar bands.

11. I heard him play almost every afternoon in the late sixties.
He lived above me on the hill and practiced with his windows open, weather permitting. He filled the entire valley with most pleasant sound. The Charlie Brown music never really sent me. My all time favorite is 'Caste Your Fate to the Wind' played on his electric harpsichord. Exquisite.
