Gorilla biscuit... Michiganders... anyone? |
|
A friend told me that sleeveless t-shirts, especially those with roughly torn or cut sleeves, was called a "gorilla biscuit" when she was growing up.
I've never heard the term. Is it familiar to you? Used often? A daily utterance?
Just wondering.

4. Yes, she lived in the Detroit suburbs. |
|
I don't know who got more grief -- me for not having heard that term or her for insisting it was really common slang.

In my day, the Burbs were pretty much off limits
Detroit has a rep of being the most segregated city in America
I know this from personal experience

Someone I played volleyball with for a few years in a rec league.
She sold Brooks running shoes and had to drive their totally wrapped company van everywhere. We all knew when she was pulling into the park.

11. Wikipedia never heard of it. |
|
Urbandictionary.com does have a clothes-related entry: "a no-name clothes brand from sears given to a young boy on christmas from his grandmother who has no interest in wearing the article of clothing EVER."
And Gorilla Biscuit is apparently a straight-edge punk band :puke:
I think your friend needs to lay off the crack pipe.

There are some good bands (though from what I have seen of GB, they ain't one of them) but it seems like so many of the straight edge bands are like the christian rock bands--not good enough to make it in mainstream so the find a niche elsewhere.
Probably pissing a few people off right now, but...

In the late 70's early 80's, gorilla biscuits was one of the many nicknames for quaaludes, a powerful prescription downer that was taken off the market totally. Name supposedly came from the fact that after taking a couple you would be dragging your knuckles on the ground when you walked. I imagine that is where the band got their name.
