I gave a lady $1 today because I was in a hurry.. |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 01:47 AM by SoCalDem
This well dressed lady ahead of me at Office Depot had exchanged something and she ended up owing EIGHTY SIX FREAKING CENTS..and she wanted to WRITE A CHECK..
It was like the commercial where some guy pays cash at the coffee shop and every one stops in their tracks..
the checker was on her first day, and she forgot how to process the check, and was going to have to call the manager, so I said.."here" and plunked down a dollar..
the lady picked up her check, took the 14 cents change and left.. not even a glance my way..

Wow.
I'd have loudly said, "You're welcome!" as she headed for the door.

5. I think she was pissed because I may have sighed when she took out her checkbook. |

It seems that the people with tons of stuff in the express line always write checks, and they always wait until after all of their stuff is tallied to take out their checkbooks.
*sigh!*

7. There really is only one reason to write a check anymore. |
|
To pay bills. That's it. Stores shouldn't even accept them anymore - they're a risk for them anyway.

9. Well, for me writing a check is free |
|
it costs me 50 cents to use my debit card.

Hardly anyone charges for debit card usage anymore. Hell, some banks let you even use other ATMs and they'll absorb the charges.

13. Like the other poster said, I would consider getting a new bank. |
|
I'd be pissed if I had to pay every time I used my check card.
I do not run my check card as a debit (I use the credit function and sign for it, rather than using my PIN). Not only is it free, but every time I use my check card, I accumulate cash back.

12. I don't even pay bills by check. I pay all my bills through my bank's online service. |
|
I do, however, need to write checks for things like school fees, school lunches, fundraisers, and other similar things.

8. I did that for someone in a lunch line once |
|
She wasn't going to write a check, she was just shy a few cents. She wanted my phone extention so she could pay me back.
I told her to pay it forward.

17. it's hard to say "thank you" for being hurried and hassled |
|
altho in her shoes i do not accept the other person's money, i continue to count out my change or to write my check or whatever the "objectionable" activity is
i try to politely ignore the person who is hurrying me or if an explanation is needed, then i explain that if i am hurried, then my hands get even shakier and that i'm already doing as best as i can
people get mad and "sigh" just as much when i pay with the dollar as when i write a check or when i pay with four quarters, and i get the idea that once you are older or sicker and slow down, you are not supposed to buy groceries at all, well, sorry that isn't going to happen
there are two sides to this, and while i'm sure socaldem had only the best of intentions, when you've been hurried like this about a million times in your life then you don't see the person trying to help, you see the person trying to pressure and hassle
taking the 14 cents is a bit of quiet sarcasm i wouldn't be capable of, but then i wouldn't have taken the $1 to begin with
she didn't say "thank you" because she didn't feel grateful, she didn't need the damn dollar, she needed people to have a moment of patience
if she was behind you in line, she would have waited

15. How DARE you help that cueless woman! |
|
Wasn't it clear to you that she wanted to write her check for 86 cents and hold up the entire line - and you in particular - with her utterly ridiculous and puny check? How DARE you help move the process along, thereby becoming a hero to all involved, save for this woman who was trying her hardest to be a cumbersome annoyance!
Hmph... Throwing money around every which way. Sounds like a Democrat to me!
