She's got a pretty good deal out of it, too, cuz mostly what she does is provide "adult" supervision and hang out with them, watching TV, playing games, eating pizza. ShineBoy (who is 13) has been VERY resentful of us having her continue to come the during the last year, b/c he feels he's "too old", which is probably true. We've mostly been doing it for our youngest, dtr, who's only 10. We are finally approaching the end of our paid childcare years, thank goodness. ShineBoy is pushing 14 and ShineGirl is almost 11, so they're pretty much old enough to be left alone for an evening out. :bounce: It's about time.
I think how much you pay depends on how many kids you have, their ages, and what level of responsibility the sitter will be having. If your kids are still babies and need to have a lot more hands-on support, you might have to pay a bit more...esp if you're leaving them with an adult, as opposed to a teenager who lives down the street. My sister, who just had her second kid, is interviewing for a "mother's helper" position and she's told me that potential applicants are asking for $14/hr!! :wow:
Childcare costs add up, I know, but it's soooo worth it to get a break now and then...esp for regular "date nights". MrShine and I have been really committed to having them, ever since our first born was a baby. Having regular paid childcare has made a HUGE difference in our relationship, in terms of having the time to nurture our man/woman;husband/wife connection...instead of the daddy/mommy role all the time.
Good luck! :hi:
on edit: I think payrate also depends on where you live in the country. Out here, in CA, $10/hr for two kids is NOT that outrageous...whereas in the midwest, it would probably be considered highway robbery. In other words, it's all relative. :D
