I have a question for people who know a lot about cars...
This might sound like a dumb question, but I don't know sh*t about cars... If diesel cost about the same or a little bit less than regular gas, and if it is slightly more economical, why don't more people drive diesel cars; why don't companies make more diesel cars?

peace,

2. When I was young my family had a diesel car.
I believe my parents ended up giving it away. It had problems starting in cold weather so they were they not able to drive it often.

3. Did they use a diesel/kerosene mix?

It helps to start it in cold weather. An anti-gel works too.

Diesel can be cheaper because it is less refined than gasoline and burns more economically. But when heating oil is short, they use the diesel reserves for heating oil, thus making it more expensive.

5. My husband is a master mechanic
Here's his answer:

Diesels aren't readily available in this country. They are big in Europe, where they have solved some of the old diesel problems of noise/smell.

7. Because there is more profit in gasoline. Only answer.
Diesel is cheaper to make. Diesel engines last longer.

BUT, diesel engines are designed to run 24/7... they don't like stop and go, start and stop.
