Fuck, this pisses me off
So, on the other night I was at the bar and ran up a $30 tab. When I went to pay the entire network was down... credit cards, debit all that. I kind of know the bartender so I just said, "What do I do?"
SHe told me just to leave my DL or credit card and comeback tomorrow. So, I go there tonight to pay it. And there's another woman working. I told her who I was and she says in a snotty tone, "I've cashed out, can you come back tomorrow?" And so I say, "Oh, is that easier for you?" Just then her boss walks by and tells her just to throw the cash on the table and add it or something. So she says, "Okay, the DECLINED card," really loud for all to hear. Then Goes, "It's really nice of you to come back." And reads the card and says "Are you (Then says my full name.)" Then finishes up with, "Here ya go, don't let it happen again." ANd I say, "actually it wasn't me... the system was down last night." And she goes, "I know, I'm just bustin' your balls."
Seriously, I don't fucking know you, I'm not your friend... and no, I'm not cool with you fucking with me like that in front of a bunch of strangers in my neighbourhood. Truly, she was just pissed cause I came in after she cashed out. ANd then decided to embarrass me... What terrible fucking bitch. I wish bad things for her. That was not cool at all.

1. Don't sweat it, man
She probably wanted it to have the effect on you that caused you to write this post. Fuck it.

6. Why are there so many people who object
whenever someone wants to let off some steam? Like it's a crime to get angry about anything.

20. Some times it is necessary.
There's really something wrong with someone who is never angry. And disallowing others the right to their own anger? Wrong, just plain wrong.

21. I'm not disallowing anybody anything
I was just suggesting that it wasn't a big deal. Something like that wouldn't be a big deal to me. It would be forgotten almost as soon as I left the establishment.

14. aw you're probably a nice person
me, I would have climbed over that bar top and kicked her snooty ass. One time at grocery store I was in line behind a young gal with a couple of toddlers - she was paying for groceries with food stamps and had gone just a bit over and the cashier told her she had to put something back - only she said it very loudly and in a very nasty tone. So I said even louder, IS THIS HOW YOU GET YOUR KICKS? HUMULIATING MOTHERS IN FRONT OF THEIR KIDS? I handed her 5 bucks to help cover the bill and asked to see a manager and requested she be trained in the art of customer service for ALL, not just those she deemed socially acceptable.

15. Witnessed something similar myself. The couple ahead of me at
the store was having some type of problem paying for their groceries. I'm not sure what it was, but it was obviously embarrassing to them. Anyway, instead of getting on the phone and calling for assistance that way, the stupid clerk yelled out loud for a manager, and said that the couple's method of payment was invalid.

The poor couple looked like they wished the floor would open up and swallow them whole. In addition to me, there were about 6 people in line behind me, and all of us felt uncomfortable about it. And then, instead of asking them to wait for a moment until the manager could get there to see what was going on, she (the clerk) just stood there, looking at the couple like they were an exhibit at a freak show.

The manager finally got there, and again, in front of everyone, started dealing the the couple, asking them questions, etc. I kept wishing the couple would tell the manager and cashier to to fuck themselves, but their groceries included lots of ingredients for meals and such, so I think they probably had children at home they needed to get food for.

Things finally got straightened out (it was a problem with the store's system, NOT with the couple), but I was steamed. I found a manager higher up the food chain, and talked to him. I told him what had happened. I also said that while I understood there was a problem, there was no need for the clerk or the other manager to make the couple stand there, embarrassed, in front of so many people. The clerk COULD have, in fact SHOULD have, gotten on the phone to call the other manager. That manager SHOULD HAVE taken the couple to another part of the store, or an empty register, to try in figure something out. There was no need to put the couple through that.

That manager, to his credit, was appalled at what I told him, and said he would speak to the other manager and the clerk about how to better handle such a situation.

I just do not understand the need that some people have to humiliate others, especially if the only "crime" the person committed was being poor, or in a tough financial situation.

16. Whenever someone has a problem with their payment method
Whether the system won't accept their check or if their credit card is declined, I always tell them, "Sometimes there's a glitch in the system and you need to call the bank to straighten it out. In the meantime, would you like to try another method of payment?"

Let's them save face and besides, it's true - sometimes the systems do screw up through no fault of the customer. I would never make someone feel foolish in front of others - what a screwy power trip that is.

17. That's exactly what I would do, too.
That happened to me at the same store once, though thankfully THAT cashier handled it they way you do. I stepped aside, called the bank, verified that I had plenty of funds available, and then went back to the cashier. She ran my debit card through again, and lo and behold, no problem. She apologized for the inconvenience, was extremely nice, and I left, purchases in hand, without feeling like a piece of crap.

Some people have such contempt for people, especially if they seem to not have enough money, it just boggles my mind. Maybe because I've been on the low end of the economic scale (and in fact, am having problems right now), I have a lot of empathy for people, and would not take delight in making them feel worse than they already do.

18. good for you, SeattleGirl
I have always felt that silence as acceptance - f*** that. If people nned to be taught how to behave in a civil manner I will do it - YES INDEED.

I must tell you about the well-dressed woman who was sniping at a Kohl's cashier last Christmas season - that poor retail worker was near tears so I piped up to that snotty woman, "SO, ARE YOU ALWAYS A BITCH OR ONLY AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME?" She stomped off and the clerk looked at me with undisguised admiration and said, "YOU"RE MY HERO!!!" :D

Well then, I guess that means that me and all of my friends who live in this area will now spend our money somewhere else!

Economic revenge ususally makes them wince. ;)

10. Honestly, that's one of the reasons I'm a bit POed
I'm not a mega start or anything, but over 100,000 people listen to newscasts with my reports signing off with my name a couple times a day. And she reads my name aloud like that.

7. I'd complain to her boss - that is bullshit
You weren't an asshole to her why should she be mean to you? I'd be embarrased if someone said my credit card was declined and "just bustin your balls" isn't a friendly gesture - not from anybody.

Hope you can shrug it off in time -

someone fired on the spot in my neck of the woods.
