I baked bread last night. |
|
It's been years since my last attempt, but I got a wild hair, got out the old Tassajara book and went at it. It's actually pretty damned good - Chris ate a big slice this morning with his breakfast.
Feelin' all communal and shit now. Anyone else do bread?

I lucked out, too. I've had the jar of yeast hanging out in the fridge for more than a minute, so I wasn't sure if it would do its thing. No problems, though.
I'm thinking "cheap hobby for the fall". :)

...I make it 4 or 5 times a week.
I make French baguettes about 4 times a week and during the cooler months I make bread almost every day.
Cheers

I love freshly made bread, esp slathered with butter and home made jelly on top.
I recently came to the conclusion though, that I have a wheat gluten sensitivity. I can do without pasta and noodles and all that, but I still like bread! So I'm trying to find recipes that use nut flours instead.
Glad yours turned out well. Did you use a bread machine?

We have a bread machine and it's ok, but I felt the need to get my hippie on and so got my hands dirty. I tend to make a pretty glorious mess when I cook, and the opportunity to get flour everywhere was too great to pass up. Besides, I want the boy to see me doing things like that.
Sorry to hear about the wheat gluten sensitivity, and good luck with the nut flour search. Man cannot live by bread alone, but I'll make a better attempt at it than most. :D

I've never used a bread machine - I find it really relaxing to go through the whole process. Very zenlike and the results are so yummy! :hi:

But it was Sweet Potato Bread. No yeast, just a quick bread. It's a PA Dutch recipe from my hubby's Aunt.
Each batch makes three loaves, which is great! I usually give some away.
Too bad none of you live near me! :P

13. I'm sorry. I really should NOT butt in to a thread, but I will ask, "WHY?" |
|
There used to be this woman who worked, a career person, and she said she would go home and do things like bake bread. All I can say is that working persons do NOT have time to BAKE BREAD.
